Western Australia Road Trip | Albany Day 7

Today was all about exploring the historic town of Albany—the oldest settlement in WA, founded by British forces in 1826. After breakfast at our B&B, we hit the road (40-minute drive 🚗). 🪨 The Big Dog Rock A local landmark—a giant rock shaped like a resting dog’s head 🐶 Stopped by the visitor center and picked up a souvenir coin with the same iconic design. 🏬 Museum of the Great Southern A branch of the Western Australian Museum, featuring exhibits on Indigenous culture, European exploration, and whaling history. Free entry! 🆓 🚢 Brig Amity Replica Docked near the museum, this is a replica of WA’s first European settlement ship.Entry: $5 – you can explore below deck (but watch your head if you’re over 180cm! 😅)With permission, we flew a drone for aerial shots of the ship and town—breathtaking views! 🚀 Princess Royal Fortress Military Museum A large free military museum showcasing ANZAC and Australian military history.Interactive exhibits (some weapons you can operate!)Hilltop location with panoramic views of Vancouver Peninsula 🌄 🍽️ Whalers Galley Cafe A cozy café inside the whaling museum. We collected Albany souvenir coins here 🪙Great views of Frenchman Bay—perfect for sunny outdoor seating! ☀️ 🌊 Greens Pool Drove west back toward Denmark to this local-favorite natural swimming pool.Calm waters protected by giant granite rocks 🏊‍♀️Families and kids swimming everywhere—wish we’d brought snorkels!Walked along the rocks, soaked up the sun, and visited Elephant Rocks (just 5 mins away) 📸 🍔 Dinner at Den Burger (again!) After all that activity, we devoured a triple Wagyu burger—still delicious! 😋 Tomorrow: heading to Esperance, the final stop on our south coast road trip. Stay tuned! #AlbanyWA #WesternAustralia #RoadTrip #HistoricTown #TravelDiaries #NoRushTravel #AustraliaExplored
