What I Eat in LA's San Gabriel Valley & Arcadia 🥢✨

Living between SG and Arcadia means I’ve tried my fair share of spots — here are the ones worth remembering (and repeating)! 📸🍚 🍖 Sam Woo B.B.Q. | Cantonese Roast Meats A go-to for weekday lunches — their roast duck is one of the best I’ve had in LA 🦆 (though American duck will never hit the same). Always solid, never fancy. 🍛 Golden Leaf | Taiwanese Classics Love their chicken rice and oyster omelette 🍳! But as someone who avoids US pork, I still can’t fully get behind their braised pork rice. 🍜 Chong Qing Xiao Mian | Spicy Noodles Noodles = 👍! But that post-meal carb coma is real 😴💤 🍝 Tsujita LA | Tsukemen Delicious dipping noodles — almost as good as the Japan location 🍜✨ But in Japan, I’d probably skip Tsujita for smaller local spots. 🥘 Yang Guofu Malatang | Spicy Mix A friend recommended this dry mala mix — perfect for summer when you want flavor without the soup sweat! 🌶️🔥 🍗 J&G Fried Chicken | Crispy Goodness Drove all the way to Hacienda Heights for this — those crispy chicken cartilages? ADDICTIVE. 🍢 Old Street Skewers | Chinese BBQ Better than the Shunfa night market stall! If you’re craving spicy wok-tossed skewers, this is the move. 🥟 Din Tai Fung | Forever Love No explanation needed ❤️ Pro tip: ordering takeout beats a 2-hour wait any day. 🥬 Lu Niang Maocai | Spicy Bowls 1.5 lb minimum — so I always split with a friend. So tasty, but my stomach isn’t what it used to be 🌶️😅 🍽️ HK Macau Bistro | Cha Chaan Teng My weekday lunch canteen! That mixed sauce cheong fun? I’m obsessed. A legit Hong Kong-style cafe. 🌶️ Ping’s Bistro (Liuxiang) | Yunnan + Hunan Locations in Hacienda + Rowland Heights. Not sure how authentic, but it’s flavorful and RICE-WORTHY. 🐂 Chaos Kitchen | Teochew Food Solid Teochew dishes with ho fun noodles — service was fine? Not sure what the hate’s about. 🍲 Shancheng Lamian | Hot Pot Better value than Hai Di Lao — which is weirdly overpriced in LA. 🥮 Xibei / Meizhou Dongpo | Northern Chinese Some original Meizhou chefs are here! Menu is similar to China — lamb is just okay though. 🥔 Jing Chang Potato Noodles Their chicken skeleton snack? SO GOOD. 🫔 101 Noodle Express Beef roll + beef noodle soup = classics done right. 🍣 Akami Sushi | Neighborhood Spot Nothing special — uni tasted bitter (probably US-sourced). 🥟 Shenyang Restaurant | Dongbei Food I usually go for cold noodles or dumplings alone — but if I have a choice, I’d rather hit Yuchun in Ktown. 🎉 Group Dinner Rotation: The Bund Kitchen Shanghai No. 1 Seafood Lou Wai Lou We just rotate these for big gatherings!
