Wichita: The Largest City in Kansas (Part 1) ๐
As the largest city in Kansas, Wichita boasts a rich blend of history, nature, and Western culture that leaves a lasting impression on visitors. ๐ฟ Cultural Icon: The Keeper of the Plains The cultural symbol of Wichita comes from a magnificent sculpture: The Keeper of the Plains (City Landmark) The "Ring of Fire" around the sculpture ignites for 15 minutes every night. For public safety, the fire ring is manually operated. It will not be activated during bad weather, if the river water level is too high, or if people (or geese ๐ฆ) get too close to the burners. With hands raised high in prayer to the Great Spirit, this 44-foot-tall weathering steel sculpture stands on a 30-foot rock promontory. Created by renowned Native American artist Blackbear Bosin, it was donated to the city in 1974 to commemorate the U.S. Bicentennial. It has since become a symbol of Wichita and a tribute to the Native American tribes who continue to gather at this sacred site. โ๏ธ Kansas Aviation Museum (Must-Visit Spot) Wichita is renowned as the "Air Capital of the World" due to its deep aviation traditions.
