Winnipeg to Fargo: A Super Chill One-Day Getaway 🚗

Over the September long weekend, we spontaneously decided on a short one-day round trip to Fargo, USA 🇺🇸! We’d driven through it briefly before on our way to Minnesota, and this time we wanted to take a more leisurely deep dive into the city~ 💚 Crossing the US-Canada Border We hit the road with homemade coffee ☕️ and McDonald’s snacks. It took an hour to drive from Winnipeg’s south end to the Emerson US-Canada border. It had been over six months since our last trip to the US, so we headed into the border office to pay the $6 entry fee 💰 and get our fingerprints taken. Pro Tips: Make sure to enroll in EVUS in advance (valid for 2 years). Get a US eSIM: We used Ubigi—$2.9 for 500MB/day is more than enough! I bought 1GB (for 7 days) and barely used half 😂. 🩵 A Quick Note on Grand Forks It’s another 1 hour and 15 minutes from the border to Grand Forks—great for a quick stop (they have Chick-fil-A 😋, perfect for a bite on the way back). We skipped it this time, but it’s a solid option if you need to stretch your legs! 💛 Exploring Fargo After another 1 hour and 20 minutes of driving, we arrived in Fargo and dived straight into tourist mode 📸: North Dakota State University (NDSU): Wandered around the campus—quiet and scenic, perfect for a casual stroll. Fargo Downtown Photo Spots: Hit all the iconic spots: Fargo Theatre (with its classic neon sign), The Silver Lining Creamery (for creamy ice cream 🍦), Fargo Civic Centre, the “Greetings from Fargo” Postcard Mural (a must-snap!), and Fargo Art Alley (filled with colorful street art). Vinyl lovers, don’t miss Vinyl Giant Records 💿—sadly, it was closed when we went (we forgot it’s closed on Sundays 😭). Wood Chipper from Fargo: It’s a small visitor center themed after the movie Fargo. Totally optional, but fun if you’re a fan of the film! Grocery Runs: Target: We checked for Stanley x Starbucks collaboration mugs… no luck 🤣. Aldi: Found my favorite hazelnut chocolate wafers (the ones I loved in Australia)—so excited 🥳! Hornbacher’s: It’s similar to Winnipeg’s Sobeys or Save on Foods. Tried their recommended sushi 🍣—fresh, but not mind-blowing. West Acres Mall: Comparable to Winnipeg’s St Vital Mall, and even smaller than Polo Park. Good for a quick browse, but not a must-visit. Restaurants 🍴: Chick-fil-A: Top pick for fast food! But double-check hours—they’re closed on Sundays. We missed out and kicked ourselves (definitely karma for eating too much last time 🤪). Texas Roadhouse: A chain American steakhouse—super tasty 😋, highly recommended if you’re craving hearty grub. ❤️ Heading Back to Canada Full and happy, we hit the road back to Canada as the sun set 🌇. A chill day trip that felt just right—no rush, just good vibes! #NorthDakota #Fargo #WinnipegLife #WinnipegThingsToDo #Ubigi
