Quebec to USA Road Trip (5) | Amazing Fried Chicken in Fargo 🚗

On the 5th stop of our road trip from Quebec to the USA, we set off from Minneapolis towards Fargo and Bismarck. The originally heavy mood was gradually healed by the scenery along the way, and we even unexpectedly found far-more-than-expected delicious fried chicken in Fargo—little blessings of this journey were fully realized~ Scenery Along the Way: From Cornfields to Lawns, Mood Widens with the View 🌽 When we left Minneapolis, there was still a touch of melancholy in our hearts 😔. But as we drove on, the scenery outside the window gradually changed—at first, it was endless stretches of cornfields, with leaves rustling when the wind blew 🍃; slowly, the cornfields turned into flat, lush lawns, and occasionally a few small houses could be seen in the distance. The sky was as blue as if it had been washed, and even the clouds looked soft and fluffy ☁️. Looking at such scenery, the previous heaviness faded little by little, and even breathing felt smoother~ First Impression of Fargo: Breaking the "Fargo" Filter, a Small City Hides Big Surprises ✨ My first impression of Fargo had always been stuck in the "remote town" setting from the movie Fargo—I always thought it should be primitive and somewhat simple 🏞️. As a result, we even had a little joke on the way: when I looked at the map and said "we’ll pass an airport ahead ✈️", my husband actually misheard it as "chicken farm" and nodded seriously, saying "Oh, they raise chickens here 🐔". I laughed so hard that I couldn’t straighten up, and tears almost came out 😂, so I didn’t hurry to explain~ Later, after checking, I found out that the story of Fargo is set in Bemidji, Minnesota, but the filming location is actually Canada! This "cognitive bias" was too funny~ The closer we got to Fargo, the more "unexpected" it felt: when passing through Moorhead, we saw Concordia College (with the same name as Concordia University). Its campus buildings were delicate with red walls and white windows, and the stadium was even more grand—it was nothing like the "small-town school" vibe 🎓; the nearby Hjemkomst Center was also very distinctive. Modeled after Norway’s Hopperstad Stave Church in appearance, its spire and wood carvings were full of Nordic charm ⛪. There was even a Viking ship on display inside, making it feel like walking into a history book with a strong exotic atmosphere~ Entering downtown Fargo was even more surprising! The streets were livelier than expected—the neon sign of the Broadway Theatre glowed with warm light, which was very eye-catching 🎭; restaurants and bars lined the streets one after another, and the aroma of food wafted out of the glass windows; there were also many unique galleries and small shops, with cute handicrafts displayed in the windows. Walking on the street, you could feel the full vitality—it was completely different from the "quiet remote town" image, but rather a delicate and lively "hidden gem town"~ Highlight Moment: Fried Chicken at Chalili’s Chicken & Wings—So Delicious That We Regretted Not Taking the Leftovers 🍗 When we got tired from walking and looked for food, we opened a rating app and chose the well-reviewed Chalili’s Chicken & Wings. We ended up being blown away by their fried chicken! It was completely different from the "dry chicken breast" we often had in Quebec—the outer skin was golden and crispy, and you could hear a "crunch" when you bit into it, while the meat inside was tender enough to burst with juice 💥. The flavor of the spices seeped into every strand of meat, and it surprisingly tasted like the familiar fried chicken from China, which was perfect for Chinese taste buds! We ordered six pieces of fried chicken, each as big as a palm, for only $20. We could also choose whether we wanted drumsticks or chicken chunks, which was totally cost-effective 💰~ We were so full that we packed the remaining two pieces to eat for breakfast the next day, but unfortunately, we forgot them in the hotel refrigerator when packing our luggage. We didn’t realize it until we’d driven half an hour away. Thinking about it now, we still feel so sorry that we want to slap our thighs 🦵—it’s definitely the "biggest regret" of this trip! End of the Journey: Sunset at the Gas Station, a Gentle End to the Day 🌇 After filling ourselves up, we didn’t forget to "refuel" the car~ The gas stations in Fargo were just like the rest of the city: clean and neat, even the gas pumps were polished to shine ✨. I stood at the entrance of the gas station, watching the sunset sink little by little below the horizon. The golden afterglow spilled over the lawn, dyeing the sky orange-red, and even the wind became gentle. The tiredness of a day’s driving was dissolved by this scenery. With a stomach full of fried chicken aroma and a good impression of Fargo, we continued towards the next part of the journey~ #Fargo #FargoMovie #Minnesota #USRoadTrip #NorthAmericanFriedChicken
