York Day Trip Diary 📔 | Totally Worth It! (+ Itinerary) 🫧
Today, I guided two lovely sisters from Hong Kong (who traveled all the way from Southampton 🚉) around York – and it was magical! We met at 12 PM and dove into this 2,000-year-old city. ⚔️ York’s Rich History Founded by the Romans as Eboracum, later ruled by Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, and Normans. A living history book with intact walls, medieval streets, and awe-inspiring cathedrals. 📍 Our Route: 1️⃣ National Railway Museum 🚂 World’s largest rail museum! Saw the Flying Scotsman and royal carriages. 2️⃣ York War Memorial ⚔️ Honors soldiers lost in WWI/WWII. 3️⃣ Museum Gardens ⛲️ 10-acre oasis with the Yorkshire Museum, St. Mary’s Abbey ruins, and a Monet-esque photo frame! 4️⃣ York City Walls 🏰 Roman-built, medieval-upgraded – walked the best-preserved walls in England! 5️⃣ York Minster ⛪️ Largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe! Climbed the tower for panoramic views. 6️⃣ The Shambles 🧙♂️ Former medieval meat market, now Diagon Alley vibes + quirky shops! Why York? Compact but packed – history, charm, and butterbeer in one walkable city. Perfect for history buffs, photographers, and Harry Potter fans! #UKGuidedTours #YorkPhotography #LondonTourGuide #UKTravel #BritishHistory #YorkExplorer #GothicArchitecture #Wanderlust
