Yunnan Kitchen, Boston

Located near Boston University, Yunnan Kitchen is a cozy Yunnan restaurant. What impressed me the most was their fried rice cake (I forgot the exact name 😅)—it has a unique texture, with a fragrant, crispy outer layer and a soft, chewy inside, carrying the aroma of fermented rice batter. It reminds me of fagao (steamed sponge cake) and tastes delicious even without condensed milk! The fried ribs 🍖 were aromatic and crispy on the outside yet tender inside; the fried mushrooms 🍄 were also a delightful surprise—with a texture similar to dried meat, wonderfully chewy and rich in umami flavor. The marinated chicken breast 🍋 was seasoned with lemon, which nicely balanced out the gaminess (since meat here can sometimes be a bit strong in flavor…).
