🏰 Zurich Fraumünster Church

🌟 The Fraumünster Church is one of the oldest sanctuaries in Zurich, originally built on July 21, 853 AD, and was initially a nunnery named "St. Felix and Regula Church." 🌟 Zurich started as a Celtic settlement with only regional influence, then developed into a Roman settlement, and finally into a thriving medieval city with far-reaching influence. The Fraumünster Church played a decisive role in this development. Starting from the 8th century, the powerful Carolingian dynasty expanded Zurich into an important stronghold of their empire. 🌟 For centuries, the Fraumünster Church was a Benedictine nunnery. Its significance was reflected in the royal minting rights, taxation rights, and market rights it possessed from the 11th century. Additionally, from the 13th century, the abbess held the official position of the Mayor of Zurich and also bore the title of Imperial Countess. This era came to an end with the Reformation movement. In 1524, the last abbess transferred the monastery and all its properties to the city of Zurich. #Zurich #ZurichChurches #Switzerland #SwissLife #WeekendGetaway #Switzerland
