Fraumünster Church — Attraction in Zurich

The audio tour takes about an hour but I'd heard enough in 30 mins. I must say that it was the idea of a crypt that drew me in. I was curious to see the crypt. The word just evokes mystery for me :-)

The church is pretty bare per the beliefs of the people who commissioned it. I found it interesting to learn that it was originally adorned with all kinds of decorations but they were methodically and cleanly removed so it didn't appear that the church has been vandalizes. The stained glass that remains is pretty beautiful. Didn't really get all the symbolism of some of them - almost seemed abstract.

The crypt itself was a letdown. No mystery there. Just the basement of the building with some exposed foundation. The inscriptions by the displays did a poor job of conveying what was being spotlighted. If they had pictures with arrows pointing to what they were referring to it would have been helpful. One of the signs said that the water line shows how high the water was - what water line?

The quality of the audio guide was really good. At one point as the narrator begins his monologue you hear a lady chanting something. I could have sworn someone was singing behind me. I turned around to look for her and it took me a couple of minutes to realize the voice was in the recording.

Must you go in for €5 - which includes the audio guide. Unless you are studying Zurich historical articture or something like that - not really.
