I dont know if us North Islanders are just fussy or what but the kai was pretty average. After trying to configure Ubereats i quickly realised the full menu wasnt available on there. Was craving for fry bread as the cravings are real when your hapu lol made the drive in the pouring rain from the east. Went round and round in circles hoping to find a csrpark. Got one in the small complex and ended up being blocked in buy two other cars who made their own parks up behinde me. Got two Hangi, Maines, Cream paua, Raw fish & Ambrosia the first visit. There was a deal on at the time, get free fry bread with every Hangi. But got there and there was no fry bread as oil was getting changed and would take over an hour. Hangi had 2 chicken, a Chop, heaps of stuffing, 3 veg and 2 little pieces of cabbage. Was disappointed. Taste like it's cooked in the oven and was hoping to see Watercress as there's plenty around atm. Had to reheat once we got home. Maines was okay but very chunky. Raw fish was yuck and watery taste had to add our own lemon to it. Ambrosia was nice and Cream paua was onn!!! Would've been even better on a fry bread but heiaha..went in the next day to collect our free bread (but rung ahead of time this time to make sure there was some) that came with the deal and bought more. They were very nice, big , fluffy on inside and crunchy on outside. And got a steam pudding which was nice aswell. All in all, the kai is a tad expensive for the quality of taste, needs a little more love (said with love) definitely wouldn't be able to afford for my whole household. Carpark is an issue. But the service is amazing and friendly!!! There facebook page is always active and running new deals all the time. And they have since I trounced door Dash with full menu available. I always give our Maori pākihi the benefit of the doubt as we all have off days, bad days and good days so I will be back to try more kai before doing another...
Read moreWas really disappointed. Went towards the end of the day which is probably why so that’s my fault but had been wanting to try their food for awhile and was driving past so decided to get something. Got the boil up pie which was $10 something and it tasted like it had been sitting there all day, pastry wasn’t fresh at all. Bought a rewana bread which was $12 and that wasn’t fresh one bit, was so hard like it had been made a couple days prior so was really disappointed with that too. Got a hangi also and was really dry. I really wanted to like this place but for the prices the food was very average and felt like I got ripped...

Plus lady on the counter lent me some tools to try and break into my car, because I'm dumb as rocks and locked the keys inside. Didn't work, so she called her hubby and his mate to give me a hand. Like absolute legends they got me in after not too much time. Mad respect for a couple of helpful champions.
Go get a feed from Kai Means Food to say thanks for the help I got to get my keys out of my car lol. You won't...
