Roy’s Bayside Grill: A Local Favorite That Never Misses a Beat By: A Hungry Island Soul Who Dines Out 7 Nights a Week
If there’s one place that consistently wins my heart (and stomach) no matter the time of day, it’s Roy’s Bayside Grill, tucked away on the calm sands of Sandy Ground. Whether I’m popping in for a casual breakfast, a hearty dinner, or grabbing something to-go between adventures, Roy’s always delivers.
Let’s talk about the star of the show: the Lobster Bisque. Creamy, rich, and filled with generous chunks of fresh lobster, this dish is a warm, velvety hug in a bowl. It's the kind of bisque that makes you pause mid-conversation just to savor the moment. If you’re a seafood lover (or just someone with taste buds), trust me—this is the one. It’s become my go-to comfort dish and one I can never resist ordering… even when I promise myself I’ll try something new.
But don’t be fooled—everything on the menu is good. Roy’s knows how to do it all, from tender steaks to fresh fish grilled to perfection. And today? I switched it up with a relaxed breakfast by the beach and grabbed a burger to go for later (because when you eat here often, you learn to plan ahead). Their breakfast is the perfect mix of laid-back and delicious—eggs just how you like them, crispy bacon, and coffee that pairs perfectly with the ocean breeze.
The burger? Juicy, flavorful, and stacked just right. It’s one of those burgers that reminds you why simple ingredients, done well, always win.
Aside from the food, the vibe at Roy’s is unbeatable. It’s casual but charming, with friendly service and a setting that makes you want to linger just a little longer. Whether you're a local or just visiting the island, Roy’s feels like home.
Final thoughts: Come for the view, stay for the bisque. Roy’s Bayside Grill is one of those rare places where every meal feels special, no matter how many times you’ve been. If you haven’t dined here yet, what are you...
Read moreRoy's Bayside Grill - at the south end of Sandy Ground/Road Bay--"checks every box": its location is breath-taking (at any time, but--being a west-facing bay--especially during sunset); the food is wonderful (breakfast, lunch, and dinner offer a huge variety of great food); and the owners (Claire & Patrick Lynch, 2nd generation after Roy & Mandy), their children, and the entire staff are just as charming, welcoming, and hospitable as they can be. There are many great restaurants on AXA, but--by any criterion--Roy's Place holds its own with all of them. One of its many virtues is that I can have "hotdogs," while my wife has haute cuisine. While--like every business--they prefer that you make reservations (essential for large groups), there is a pretty good chance that you can walk in and get a beachside table. Places don't become an "institution" by luck; they earn that status. And Roy's place has done it the old-fashioned way: they've "earned it." Put it at the top of your restaurant lunch for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (or, perhaps, breakfast, lunch, AND dinner). And Roy's is one of Anguilla's great supporters of live music. Always check for the most recent schedule, but frequently excellent live performers (proper decibel level, so that the music complements, not overwhelms, the atmosphere). Finally, if you're a trivia maniac, Tuesday evenings is the time to be at Roy's (be careful, though, a lot of really smart, knowledgeable and competitive people at every...
Read moreI love Roy’s & look forward to eating there every trip for breakfast, lunch and dinner—the food is quality and I love the laid back atmosphere. My favorites: Breakfast- each trip I have to get the Corned beef hash breakfast. It is the best I have ever had. The Bloody Mary is a work of art and a meal in itself. Lunch- The corned beef reuben is the standard I hold all others to. Can’t go wrong with a burger. Even the bun is homemade. the salad is so fresh, too for when you need to dial it back from too many rich vacation meals. Dinner- French onion soup. Anything with a side of scalloped potatoes. Panko chicken, fish & chips…The fish is local and fresh. Last time I was there a fisherman was making a delivery. It was nice to see fish arriving in something other than a frozen cardboard box. Dessert you can’t go wrong with the cookie pie. Now I’m hungry & craving Roy’s but I’m 1800 miles away. See...
