Beachlimerz — Restaurant in Antigua

I rarely get incensed enough or enthused enough to leave a review on any medium.

Tonight (March 2022) 9 of us went for dinner at Beachlimerz and for the most part, being fair it was pretty good. Wait times for drinks were long (20-25 mins) but the ambience and setting made you forgive some of that. The live music was excellent and being on the beach was lovely.

What wasn’t forgivable was that 1 main meal out of 9 turned up 30-35 mins after all the others, without an apology, or explanation. A tequila (not asked for or particularly welcome) was delivered as a way of placating the disappointment.

When the bill came I asked for the late meal (75 EC) to be removed from the bill of over 1100 EC but the owner was belligerent, steadfast and actually pretty rude about the fact the meal had been eaten meant it needed to be paid for.

It’s not about the money, but the principle of good service as one person sat there and watched all 8 others eat dinner before having to eat alone. The refusal to acknowledge the shortcoming or offer any sort of discount or token gesture was just not something I have ever experienced before, in any situation whereby recognition of fault would at least be forthcoming rather...

I would like to give this place a five stars because its has everything to work…almost. Food is good, good presentation and charming decor. However the overall experience was a little awkward with enough confusion through our service that it is impossible to not mention it. It’s started by feeling like my friend and I were doing something wrong by showing up in this resto and ended by feeling pressured to leave soon after eating, as the resto was trying to close before the official closing hours. When I got there the lady kept telling me it was really late (suggesting I should leave), but when I asked if we should leave she said no that we should stay. We arrived at 8:50 pm when we were told on the phone that the kitchen closed at 10. When it was time to leave, we asked for dessert and were told that there was none - we were too late and the kitchen had closed. But then a few minutes later another waitress came and said we could order dessert and gave us them menu - but then after that the other lady came back and said that no we couldn’t, and the only thing we could have had was ice cream. So we had ice cream finally to have a good ending to the night and the lady just stood next to us...

The beach was absolutely beautiful. Very calm and blue water and the sand was so soft. The facilities were nice and clean. From what I've seen, most places in the Caribbean are not really landscaped and just grow naturally. This place was landscaped beautifully. There were some water toys to rent like paddle boards and kayaks (or something similar). We did not get the chance to rent anything because they were all being used and there were no more than 15 other people on the beach by the time we left. I did overhear someone who I'm assuming paddle boards a lot complain about them because they were filled with air or something and not made of anything really sturdy. She was having trouble balancing, I guess. My husband and I just had burgers for lunch, but they were delicious. I'm pretty sure the burgers were made fresh. They definitely did not taste frozen. Gail also arranged transportation for us and the mother/son duo who provided it were also fantastic. I could not have asked for a better way to spend my wedding...
