Normally I love House of Bo as a budget friendly option for Asian food. We love getting the steamed dumplings and crab rangoon from here, and the curry dishes, friend rice, and noodles are all really good. We got very excited when we saw that they are now serving ramen bowls and spent over 150 EC for two bowls: their seafood ramen and the pork ramen. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food we were given. The fish cakes were breaking apart (normally in ramen bowls they are nice and chewy), and the ramen noodles were overcooked. The mushrooms were questionable as I am not sure if they were fresh or dry. The broth itself especially was subpar. There was no flavour to it whatsoever. Their miso soup is more flavourful if you ask me. Ramen broth is usually a creamy and the miso and spice gives it a rich flavour, however this broth was more comparable to pho but barely had any salt or any seasoning in it. It was quite watery and bland. Overall, I was VERY disappointed, especially because I am a regular customer at this place. For the price we paid we could've gotten much better food elsewhere...
Read morePretty stoked to find this place after a week of lackluster meals from local restaurants. The teriyaki chicken and gyōza were delicious, and it’s great to see more meat options on the menu, which sets them apart from other local spots that usually offer a range of seafood or a cheeseburger.
Some feedback I feel could help this place reach its full potential:
Kewpie mayonnaise would be a valuable addition to many items on the menu.
While some staff members are nice and friendly, others came across as rather awkward.
The hours and location listed on Google Maps are incorrect, which makes it hard to find and plan a visit.
Lastly, Bao are traditionally fist-sized buns with filling, rather than being giant burgers. When assembling a burger, always put the cheese between the hot items and the salad rather than below the crown, as this prevents the salad from becoming hot and wilted. Additionally, the use of individually wrapped plastic cheese and the lack of sauce made the burger a letdown, further compounded by it not resembling a typical Bao.
All the best to this...
Read moreWe saw the ad on social media and decided to try them out Friday afternoon for an after work dinner. Though there weren’t many people dining in there were lots of people picking up to go orders. We had the beef pan fried dumplings to start and smoked chicken bao buns. Both were very very very good. We were pleasantly surprised. The bao buns were very soft and the perfect blend of sweet and savory. My wife had the beef pad Thai and I had the beef ramen noodle bowl. Both were exceptional. I feel this place is a best kept secret for Asian food. Service was ok and atmosphere was nice but the food is where it’s at. The amaretto sour was really good as well. Great spot for a low key chill with friends and family to grab...
