Simply fabuloso!! We came across this place as we were looking for an alternative to Argentine parrilla and the meat-dominant local diet. We figured a country with a long coastline and year-round fishing should have some decent seafood places, and we were not wrong.
Solo Pescados has a broad offering of fresh seafood on their menu. Don't miss the extremely generous portions of fish ceviche - on the day of our visit there were 3 types of fish on offer: mero (grouper), merluza (hake) and corvina (croaker). We tried the grouper and hake, both very fresh and delicious. The fish soups are also wonderful. The chilicano (fish in clear broth), the parihuela (chunks of fresh fish in a fish stock), and the chupe de camarones (generous slices of fish with shrimp in a rich soup slightly thickened with light cream, garnished with an egg) - all tasted fresh and satisfying whether as a shared appetizer or a meal in itself.
We also had the gambas al ajillo which was ok but not memorable. The same goes for the paella valenciana. But the Arroz a la norteña is outstanding with a rich mix of seafood and flavour greatly enhanced by fresh cilantro.
All washed down with beer and a bottle of Callia Chardonnay, which was recommended by the chef/owner Victor. With the low value of the peso at the moment, all this came to less than US$15 per person including the tip.
One of the best meals we've had in 3 weeks of travelling...
Read moreAfter 3 weeks in South America, my stomach had enough meat for a long time, and I was craving for fish. We found this place on the internet, and decided to give it a try even though it is located away from the central touristy area. The restaurant is small, but the food was super good.... and the portions were HUGE! The ceviches must have contained a whole fish in them, and the fish soups were a meal by themselves! Most important of all they taste great! We also had a paella which was "only normal" in taste (i.e., taste good but not great), a risotto that was great and filling, and a pan-fried grouper that was very tasty. The owner and waiter were both super attentive. All in all it was a 5-star experience. If you love seafood and you are in B.A., don't miss...

An outstanding fish restaurant. Low key but high quality meals.
We shared two empanadas: the prawn and queso was fresh and delicious.
For mains: a cerviche of mixed seafoods and a Peruvian seafood rice dish. Everything was fresh, full of flavour, made with quality ingredients. Fantastic.
The chef even greeted us at the table to explain the dishes on offer and make a recommendation of food and wines to our taste.
We will definitely...
