Los vinos son espectaculares, todos de Escorihuela Gascón. El MEG (chardonnay) es delicioso! Elegimos Menú Otoño y lo más destacado de todo es la degustación de postres para el final, pero desde la entrada fue todo muy muy rico lleno de sabor! El sommelier excelente y dispuesto. El bar que tiene y su responsable (Juan pablo) otro acierto! Estuvimos más de una hora conversando y degustando wisky. Un enamorado de su barra como debe ser! Cumplí un sueño, gracias Francis!

BUYER BEWARE: FRAUD ALERT The way they choose to process the credit card payment borders on fraud and results in the meal costing ~2.3X what you'd reasonably anticipate. Expect to pay $300 USD / person for this dinner, which is absolutely absurd for what you get. Avoid this place. Go to Anna Bistro or literally anywhere else in Mendoza. Do not support deceptive business practices.

Made a last-minute (day-of) reservation for my husband and me through their online booking system. Confirmation email said I'd be charged $220,000 ARS, which should have been ~$275 USD had they ran it through my Visa card in Pesos. Even at this conversion rate, this is the most expensive place we ate at in Argentina and comparable to what you'd pay in the US for an extremely nice meal. However, imagine my surprise when I looked at my credit card & saw 1884 actually charged me $631 USD.

I called my credit card company and they told me the charge had come through in USD, meaning 1884 did the conversion instead of allowing my credit card to do so. It would not have been that big of a deal, except 1884 used the official exchange rate. If they had submitted it in Pesos, my Visa card would have converted it at the MEP rate, making the dinner ~$350 USD cheaper.

I tried to contact 1884 to figure out what happened but no response. I am currently disputing this transaction with my credit card company because I agreed to pay the ARS amount, not the USD amount. If you're going to charge in USD, say that! Throughout my time in Argentina, when I was told I'd pay in ARS, my card was ALWAYS charged in ARS.

While the experience was unique, it's not worth anything $100 USD / person. I'm a vegetarian, and they weren't that accommodating. They just served me another round of pasta in place of the protein.

I am really surprised this restaurant has received as many accolades as it has. Maybe it was great back in the day, but it's hard to overlook the egregious...

My recent dining experience at 1884, Francis Mallmann's restaurant, was unfortunately a disappointment, especially considering its reputation and price point. I chose 1884 over Mr. Mallmann's 7 Fuegos restaurant due to recent negative reviews of the latter. However, the 8-course tasting menu with wine pairing fell far short of expectations. Ironically, the highlights of the meal were the warm bread selection, the cheese plate, and the dessert assortment – not exactly what one expects from a high-end restaurant.

The humita was surprisingly bland and simple, tasting like something easily replicated at home of ingredients from a convenience store. The octopus, a prime opportunity to showcase the chef's expertise with open-fire cooking and achieve a delightful char, was disappointingly uniform in texture and lacked any of the desired smoky and charred bits and notes. The accompanying potato was equally uninspiring and remained largely untouched.

The slow-cooked lamb, which should have been the star of the evening, was a good illustration of how a meat can simultaneously achieve a tender and dry texture. It was served with a rather ordinary potato purée. This pairing seemed like non-sense; why serve a tender meat dish with an equally soft purée? A contrasting element, such as some charred and crunchy vegetables, would have better complemented the lamb's tenderness and elevated the dish.

From the wine paring, only the Jerez deserves a mention.

While I understand the urge of dining at a Francis Mallmann restaurant when visiting Mendoza, as I myself felt, I recommend to skip it. Mendoza has numerous excellent alternatives offering comparable or superior cuisine at a fraction of the cost. I would encourage fellow travelers to explore these other options before...

Estivemos no restaurante 1884, de Francis Malmann, listado entre os 50 melhores restaurantes do mundo, segundo THE WORLD'S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS, no ultimo dia 18 de novembro. Como já conhecíamos o local, decidimos levar nossos amigos no dia 18/11. Quanta decepção! Nas visitas anteriores fomos recebidos no jardim da casa, com uma taça de espumante de boas vindas, fato que não se repetiu. No momento da reserva solicitamos o menu vegetariano para 2 participantes, porém, o menu de sete passos não tinha essa opção em todos eles. Questionei à maître sobre a falta dessa opção e ela nos sugeriu comermos dois passos seguidos com amido, sem qualquer opção proteica. Após discordarmos da sugestão , nos apresentaram um prato com cogumelos e dois ovos fritos, os quais estavam com parte das claras e das gemas cruas, sem falar na péssima apresentação. Devolvemos os pratos intocados e não houve qualquer preocupação quanto a isso. Vários passos do menu vieram com pratos mal feitos, frios e sem qualquer padronização. As empanadas do 2° passo vieram queimadas e o mesmo ocorreu com as polentas servidas no 3° passo. No 5° passo uma das comensais teve de comer sozinha, pois esqueceram do prato dela. No 6° passo o arroz veio queimado! Devolvemos diversos pratos praticamente intocados, os quais foram retirados pelos garçons, sem que ninguém (os próprios garçons, a maître ou a equipe da cozinha) se preocupasse em saber por qual razão a comida estava voltando para a cozinha. Os garçons, após muita demora entre um passo e outro, retiraram os pratos e jamais indagaram se a comida havia agradado ou se havia algum problema, postura absolutamente inesperada para um restaurante do nível a que de propõe ser o 1884. Só vieram na mesa após reclamarmos formalmente, o que ocorreu quando recebermos o arroz queimado. Tivemos de repetir para três pessoas distintas os problemas constatados. Primeiro para a maître Cecilia, que chamou um rapaz, encarregado da cozinha, o qual, por sua vez, chamou a chefe, muito jovem e simpática. A falta de qualidade não se restringiu às falhas da comida, diversos talheres apresentavam manchas de lava-louça, alguma sujidade e todos eles com muitos riscos. Alguns copos estavam com a borda lascada, oferecendo risco de cortar os lábios e só foram substituídos após reclamação formal. Após essa experiência ruim, perdemos o apetite e desistimos do 6° e do 7° passos. Os funcionários da casa se restringiram a pedir desculpas, ao passo que a chefe afirmou que preparou tudo “com muito amor” e, como forma de compensação, oferecerem uma taça de espumante (aquela que era um brinde de cortesia nas visitas anteriores). Ficamos extremamente decepcionados e constrangidos frente aos nossos amigos, pois havíamos falado muito bem do restaurante e, com base nisso, se dispuseram gastar cerca de U$ 130,00 por pessoa (sem bebidas) para um jantar desagradável, que foi um verdadeiro fiasco. Surpreendentemente o restaurante cobrou o valor integral da conta, ignorando os pratos devolvidos, com total descaso para a nossa insatisfação. Para rematar “com chave de ouro”, o serviço de reserva é uma verdadeira armadilha, pois eles pedem um cartão de crédito para a garantia da reserva e, em verdade, já debitam da conta do cliente, no câmbio oficial (que ninguém usa na Argentina) o valor integral do jantar, impedindo o cliente de alterar ou cancelar, pois não se trata de apenas uma taxa por eventual “no show,” que seria o correto. O restaurante não conta com um bom sistema de exaustão e todos nós saímos com as roupas impregnadas de aroma de “parrilha”. Fato inconcebível para um restaurante desse padrão! Por fim, nos pareceu bastante clara a razão pela qual o Chefe Francis Malmann afirmou que devolveria eventual estrela Michelin: ele jamais receberia uma! O restaurante já nasceu como uma supernova, estrela fadada à morte e acredito que para 2024 ele não mais estará na lista do THE WORLD'S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS.
