Dear A&D's: As others - I have chosen to buy local and support you as a local business. This means nothing to you, based on how you treated me today but you've lost a customer for life, lost my respect. I can't remember any occasions where I was dismissive to anyone who works there, rude to any other patron. Nor have I ever been pushy or demanding about anything there during any interaction. When I just went into the bakery after coming back from 2.5 hours at my Dr's office, and I am required to attend daily (have been there for 2 hours every day for 3 weeks) after having a surgery 6 weeks ago and a pulmonary embolism as a complication... I went in to A&D's today just then - the person in front was served and left and there was a brief pause in time where there a lull and I was the only one at the counter. I had a brief convo about croissants, and I forgot to transfer the money out of my internet account. While I was doing that I stood aside and allowed the next person to be served. It took less than a minute on my phone to do that. The next man was served... there was a clear queue: man in front of me, ME, man who walked in last and QUEUED UP BEHIND ME. Instead of fixing up my order and letting me pay wave my croissant.... the man behind me BARKED "I WANT X SANDWICH"..... a woman pretended I didn't exist, disregarded how long I had been waiting and even made a NO gesture with her hand.... when I saw her pick up the pay wave portal thing (the only one you have there at the counter)..... I turned to her when she picked it up, and she shut me down when I made an attempt to advocate for myself by gesturing with her hand. I had been waiting longer than the man who came in a decent amount of time after me.... and I yielded to let another man be served while it took me 60 seconds to transfer from my internet account. What the man did behind me - barking an order for a sandwich over me and then having a woman working at A&D ignore me, get his serve him, take the ONLY payment portal at the counter and then waving me back and down when I attempted to address what DECISIONS YOUR BUSINESS CHOSE TO MAKE. If you aren't paying in cash everyone is occupying time to pay through pay wave and that portal/reader. That is awful, and that is incredible - to show so little respect to a person who goes to your business, chose to do so for years - and that woman ultimately represents A&D (as an owner, manager, employee) - that when that was happening, at the point I tried to politely make an attempt to advocate for civility and for respect FROM YOU and for you guys to do the right thing in your business, exercise common respect for your patrons. The male patron actually barking orders, and my attempt to be treated equitably today (only to be shut down actively and bypassed by A&D staff, the woman at the counter who knew what she was doing and stopped me when I tried to give her a chance to reconsider if that was how she should treat a customer/and how she treated the man behind me happily). I think the treatment I received from your business today was vile, from my observations & reflections your business seems.....SELECTIVE when it comes to which patrons deserve your basic respect. You expect your patrons to be civil and polite, certainly through COVID I tried and did my best to respect your business and your employees, respect their safety and try to continue to support your business while COVID shuttered the doors on many local businesses in this area. I did what a lot of people did here. I felt more uncomfortable at the thought that I was the one pushed away, the one who had their time and disposition disregarded actively, my effort to stop that woman from doing what she knew she was doing: clearly seeing a queue there, she did not have to respond to this man behind me barking orders like an animal. Would you have let me speak to anyone there like that? Let alone serve them out of turn, and use the only pay portal at the counter to serve him and discard me. I didn't deserve that - nobody does. Read moreWONDERFUL FOOD!!!! This is one of our local favorites and continuous backstop. They have weekly meals they prepare in advance and you can sign up to be on the list. Highly recommended that you sign up or else you miss out! They create excellent curries and anything Asian which comes out of their kitchen is a guaranteed to be very tasty. Of particular yumminess are the donuts. My gosh the chocolate covered donut is the best in town BAR none. There is also nutella filled chocolate donut which is terrifyingly habit forming to say the least. Their pies are fantastic and great for a quick smash and grab when hungry. Customer service is always fantastic as well. We generally get to talk to Alex who always looks after us and makes sure we are well fed and taken care...
Read moreToday I visited Akkerman & Dyer and tried their award-winning sausage roll alongside a long black, and it did not disappoint! The sausage roll was not only visually beautiful but incredibly delicious, living up to its reputation. The pastry was perfectly baked, golden, and flaky, and the filling was full of flavor - truly a standout. The long black was equally impressive, with a rich and smooth taste that complemented the sausage roll wonderfully. It's no wonder Akkerman & Dyer took home first prize for their sausage roll at the Royal Adelaide Show this year! A must-try if you're in Blackwood....
