I'm really disappointed with my first experience with this bakery. I drive past all the time but don't ever stop into bakeries because I'm gluten intolerant so don't usually bother. However my partner recently dropped in and bought home some gluten free desserts for me. Because I now know they offer GF options I popped in this afternoon looking to find out about the range.
I was served by a young girl and when I asked about the GF dessert options she showed me what they had. There were 3 options, it looked like they had sold out of quite a bit, and I knew there was another GF dessert on offer previously because of the one my partner bought home. So I asked what else they normally have. She didn't know, which I understand, maybe she was new or just working in the school holidays, or just plain didn't know, but it was obvious I wanted more information and she just kept trailing off and not finishing what she was saying. I then saw a menu and asked if maybe the GF options were in there, she had a look but just said no there isn't. But didn't try to find out or ask someone else?? I wanted to ask her to find out but decided to give up because a line had started behind me. So I ordered a few GF and a few normal desserts for my family members, but I felt super rushed and like I was taking up too much time. She kept telling me the total when I hadn't finished looking, nevermind I would have liked to know about the savoury GF options. She shoved each of the 7 desserts in individual paper bags and then all into one large paper bag, which is disappointing because half of them are squished now. When my partner ordered 4 desserts the person who served him put them into a box so they wouldn't get ruined. Where's the consistency there?
As someone who works in customer service who goes above and beyond to help customers, I'm baffled? I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth as I expected better service. I get that she's young, but I don't actually think that is an excuse, as I was doing half the work for her in the interaction and she had multiple opportunities to help me, yet I still left without the information I came in for.
I get that people who require GF options aren't the main demographic for a bakery, but we like baked goods too sometimes. I've checked the website and there is a vague statement about GF items. How is anyone meant to find out more if the staff...

Read moreThis bakery is easily worthy of a 5 star review. Their products are super delicious, with wonderful variety and catering to all dietary requirements. The only problem is the presentation of the food. We have been regular customers at the coromandel store since it opened but really struggle with the open placement of uncovered food on top of the counter. It affects our choices as we will not buy scrolls or pizza , for example, that is placed right at the front. Many customers are oblivious to the hygiene considerations and lean over the food, place their hair near it or talk and laugh openly right next to the uncovered food. This is especially concerning since customers stopped wearing masks. There is no doubt the products are contaminated. It’s hard to say this cos we really love the place but an experience this morning really put us off. Could you possibly erect Perspex shields or something to protect the food? Edit December 2023 they have installed small Perspex screens (some times ago now) and this is a huge...
