Visited DTRH a few times now and every time, I’m slightly more disappointed by the atmosphere. Seems like there’s a huge contrast on the way the staff interact with customers based on their appearances- which is serious accusation to throw out there, but after a handful of passionless and stiff scenarios, I feel expert enough to point out. Don’t get me wrong, the place is a total dream and physically, it’s worthy of every Instagram post that hails its photo ops, but it’s hard to bask in its sunny persona when there’s workers there making the place feel cold, rigid and unaccepting.

The owners seem to preach family, comfort and fun and yet these are values that don’t seem to be upheld by staff, which is probably a hard pill to swallow as I can understand the working environment is something of a family unit there. Judging by the other reviews though, I’m certainly not the only one that’s picked up on the slightly judgmental, often unwelcoming attitudes of the workers. It’s definitely not something to be brushed off and taken lightly- this seems to be a huge issue that’s been skipped over very carelessly by management. When I first visited DTRH, I even encountered this energy from one of the owners, who I’d been starry eyed and eager to meet after following them on socials for years. There is one person I’ve had a positive interaction with… Jack, might be his name? A warm, friendly hunk who I’ve seen regularly wear a beige hat and a hearty grin, and who I assume handles the tastings. That was a decision I appreciate deeply. He seems to be setting a standard for the others that seems almost unreachable.

The food is incredibly aesthetic and obviously organic and high quality. Still, it’s expensive for the serving size. Luckily, I’m a massive foodie so I’ll spend any amount of money if it means my taste buds are going to be blessed with a burst of flavour and a mouthful of creativity… in the end, it was okay. Just okay. The cocktails are also expensive and mediocre. Their selection of reds is pretty delectable, I will admit! But it would taste much better if there was a warm environment inside the cellar door to taste it in.

For me though, customer service is EVERYTHING and if you don’t have that, then there’s not really any saving the experience for me. I’ve given it a go a few times, will I swing by again? Maybe, if my friends tempt me with a swig of that Tempranillo and a ride home but you won’t find me shouldering past the pretty girls, spruced up husbands and a swarm of kids to get...

We had our first visit to Down the Rabbit Hole yesterday and it was amazing. The whole venue is just gorgeous and I can’t speak highly enough about every aspect of our time there. We were greeted warmly on arrival and escorted to the wine tasting that a few of us were booked in for. The staff member serving us was so lovely. She was well informed about the wines and made it an interesting and fun experience. The tasting was tailored to our preferences and all of the wines were delicious. We then joined some other friends in the Fiore restaurant for the “feed me” lunch. The restaurant is beautiful and has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. All of the food was amazing (and so plentiful!) and exceeded the high expectations I’d had, based on the reviews I read before I booked a table. One member of our group has particularly complicated dietary restrictions and I had made enquiries about whether it was even possible to accommodate these before I booked us in. I cannot thank everyone enough for the care they took, in order to ensure that this person could not only join us for a very special occasion, but also had equally fantastic food to enjoy on the day. I’d like to give a particular thank you to Chelsea, who I had most of my contact with regarding the dietary restrictions beforehand, and the chef for creating such an incredible menu.
