Nirala Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in Adelaide

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Ordered via menu log on a weeknight, was told eta would be 1.5 hours. Partner & I decided to wait. Hugely disappointing when it finally arrived, 1hr 40mins later- food was stone cold. The garlic in the naan bread was raw (really?) & mine was burnt on the outside. The dahl I ordered was more like a soup, no whole lentils to be seen. That too was cold & flavourless. I ordered the eggplant bhajis, four thin slices (literally) of fried eggplant that was cold & dripping with oil. Oh, my naan bread was also stuck to the paper bag, which I had to peel off to get to the delicious "raw garlic". I had called the restaurant prior to see if the quoted 1.5 hour delivery time was correct. She had explained that they were short staffed & that it would be better if we "came & got it". Umm, defeats the purpose of a delivery, no? Short staffed or not, the food was not up to scratch & as previously mentioned, stone cold. So I'm down $60, my stomach is unsatisfied & I'm stuck with a pile of cold, sticky, sloppy food that unfortunately has to be thrown out. Needless to say, I will never be ordering from this...

Every other time we have ordered or dined in, food has been delicious and quick.

Today we were there for an hour and ten minutes before we got our mains. The waitress said it was her fourth shift and she was very unsure and flustered. Food was much slower than normal, waiting 30 minutes for entrees and an hour and 10 minutes for mains.

The food was not as good as usual, with the potato curry containing 2 pieces of potato and being mostly cauliflower, and the duck curry underwhelming.

I feel as though the waitress shouldn't have been left alone so soon after commencing, and clearly something was going on in the kitchen as well.

The whole night there were pickup customers and uber drivers being told 10 more minutes, and the other table dining in waited about an hour as well.

There was someone who appeared to be a manager, sitting in the dining area and occasionally telling the waitress that there was someone at the counter.

There was also confusion with our bill.

Every other time I've been, I would have rated 5 stars. Not saying I won't go again but I'll...

Previously have had delivery through this restaurant and they've been great, however takeaway is useless. At 16:20 today I ordered and paid for food using one of their websites, with the restaurant confirming at 16:25 that the food would be ready for collection at 17:10.

Arrived 17:10, and no staff was available to speak with me until 17:20 at which point I was advised my food would be just a couple more minutes.

At 17:40 with zero further presence of staff in front of house, one came out to answer a call - when she was off the phone I explained I would like to cancel my order. Staff member advised my food was almost ready, and she'd check for me. At 17:50 without any staff having returned to front of house, I left without my food - don't appreciate this business wasting 40 minutes of my time, and will be disputing the credit card charge.

There was a maximum of one other customer at the location during this period.
