My partner had booked a table for four in the restaurant for lunch. Restaurant. When we arrived, there was no one to seat us so we just went in and sat at a table for four with a 'reserved' sign on it.
We waited for someone to come and ask us what we would like to drink—you know, like they do in Restaurants—and we waited and waited. No wait staff, it appeared. But the restaurant wasn't busy, at all.
We eventually asked at the bar next door and was told there was no wait staff. Ummm, okay. That's unusual for a Restaurant, but if that's how the hotel rolls, we'll go with it. We were told that we could order our meals at that bar. So we ordered a bottle of Bird in Hand Sparkling (our favourite) and went back to our table to decide on our meals.
About this time, a very large party of families came into the Restaurant and sat at a reserved line of tables right next to us. Half the party was parents and half the party was children aged ten and under.
There was much noise, understandably, so we moved ourselves to another table at the opposite side of the small Restaurant.
Our bottle of ssparkling arrived in an ice bucket and we poured the wine ourselves, because the deliverer had disappeared. Conversation ensued and it was only when I was emptying the last of the sparkling into a glass that I noticed we had been given a bottle of Croser, not Bird in Hand. By now the very large table was crowded around the bar ordering food and drinks, so we decided not to wait twenty minutes to raise this with the bar staff.
Soon enough, however, we were able to order our meals, including a $46 steak for me. You know, it's funny, but I would have thought a Restaurant charging $46 for a steak that was nothing special could have afforded wait staff. But what would I know? Our table's experience of the food was that it was, at best, average.
Now, lest you think me curmudgeonly and that I have no idea what I'm talking about, as a resident of Athelstone I have eaten at the new Rezz many times, during the day and not in the restaurant, and have always loved the food, the staff and the great selection of wines and beers. The new Rezz is a vast improvement on the old Rezz (except for the carpark; that is still truly mind-numbingly bad and an appalling torpedo on the Rezz's brand and customer experience).
But this time I, my partner and her two 80-something parents were eating in the Restaurant. A Restaurant with no wait staff. With people who deliver wines and leave immediately without pouring glasses. Who charge $46 for an average steak.
Back to the very large table. I totally understand why they were at the Rezz—they had relatives visiting from Italy and the various families got together to celebrate. No issue with that. But we all were in a Restaurant, not a Function Room. Why were we gifted with the joys of under ten-year-old boys expressing themselves very loudly as they ran in and out of the Restaurant, running past our table with great frequency, shouting to their friends, parents, siblings and relatives? I have no idea either, and none of the few staff on duty seemed to care, either, because they were too busy doing what they were paid to do—pour drinks and take food orders.
In essence: this review is from someone who has visited and eaten at the Rezz many times, but first time in the Restaurant *average Restaurant food no wait staff in Restaurant wrong wine served judging from the food prices there is probably plenty of fat in the budget for a Restaurant to employ Restaurant...
Read moreThis is probably my worse dining experience. First We booked for 16+2kids and obviously we are looking forward to have a nice family and friends gathering. When we arrived what they give us are 2 separate high counter table which is not even safe for kids to sit on. When we see it’s not even a busy day that day on 19th December Sunday 6:30pm. I think they should have a proper practice for the staff to know how to manage the business and plan out how to locate customer to have a nice dining experience. Secondly we waited 1hr for our food and non of the staff give us notice or approach us that food have not arrive until we go and ask the staff. What we got told is our order are not putting through properly and just walk away. I even ask is there any compensation because my kids have been waiting and left hanging for 1 hr and they are very agitated and tired but the staff just turned and walk away after apologizing. Our food finally arrive with bad presentation and tasteless which we think they probably rushed it to make them out. When finished everything, the manager approached us and ask us what we want her to do in a very unfriendly manner and told us what she can do is only offer a drink. I even asked why non of the staff with over 5 floor staffs non of them notice and we were just sitting beside the order counter, she just told us, because all of us ( staff )didn’t even know your order is not putting through. This is really ridiculous. With so many staffs on duty, I think they should check/ follow up with the customers on how things are going, my husband were busy Walking all around with kids trying to settle them and he said he can see some staff just having conversation at the corner doing nothing while some of them just wiping the tabletop which is not even dirty to try to look busy. I’ve work as an attendant before, I know what’s it’s like to be a busy and have the idea of prioritizing tasks…..anyhow I think the management should look into their workers training, work etiquette and are they actually working in an efficient way to maximize their return to keep the business going. Yes the renovation is great but the dining experience is bad. With so many better hotels nearby sadly we definitely won’t be...
Read morePizza and the decor were nice. However we came there tonight for an early mother's day dinner and the staff couldn't be less interested! There was no communication or care factor from them. Pre-booked and one guy found out table but didn't tell the other guy who was at entrance looking, he looked pissed off when my autistic brother said "out here! We found it" Out table was so wobbly and we had a shortage of cutlery and no napkins. They didn't greet us when sitting us or give us any rundown of where to order or anything.
We waited an hour for any food. They brought out 2 mains then took one back as it was for wrong table, they asked to take my dad's even though he'd started eating. We said we had entrees waiting on, the waiter said oh sorry for the mix up we'll get you some free entrees and chips and stuff. we Never got this, when I asked at the desk everyone said I dunno can't talk to me bout that coz I dunno. Directed me to another worker who said I don't understand.
They brought out a second lot of kids meals and asked have you got your kids meals? (While they're clearly eating it) They never got their icecreams though. Staff rarely came out and when they did very quick to drop and run!
Mains finally came out again, where I mentioned we again (to new waitress now) we're waiting for our entrees. She dumps the mains and leaves then all entrees come out. I then order a coffee and the guy walks off so I stand and wait for it? Eventually the coffee guy says are you right? And says they'll bring it out. A different guy again brings out coffee, dumps it Infront of the kid and leaves, like yes let's put the hot coffee on the wobbly table Infront of the child.
Also booked the rezz as it said it had kids area. The normal height table nearby was outside and the play area was mostly games machine you need to pay for!! Wtf, a small slide area but rest was paid shit. Night prob could've been better with a little empathy but no one even tried to listen to us or check on us even after the main meal issues. Worst service, will not be...
