Overall the experience is what you make of it with limited options, it has the potential to reach 5 stars quite easily.

As newlyweds my husband and I expected much more in terms of availability on the estate. Communication fails this estate as there is an obvious disconnect between each venue which makes it seem like three seperate businesses; accomodation, a restaurant and a cellar door.

Accomodation arrived at 1730 and received a courtesy call ahead of time from reception to let us know where we could find our key to the room as the operating hours end at 1700. the room was clean and presented well, it featured a spa and king sized bed. The bed was not comfortable and it felt like two beds positioned together with a timber divider in the middle. After we had settled in we were hungry and decided to try and get food from the restaurant within the estate to no end as they were not answering phone calls.

Cellar Door Entirely disappointed with this part of the Serafino experience, had we known that staying on site would not guarantee even a simple tasting - we would have booked elsewhere. From the very first moment we walked in we felt unwelcome. Having spent the night with only a bottle of Serafino Shiraz stocked in the room, we wanted to do a wine tasting and ready to take more than a dozen bottles with us as we love wine. Fully booked, they claimed. With three tables occupied and another six set inside and all but one of the tables outside available, they were hardly busy - as the female attendant kept saying. Her customer service was appalling, she had no manner about her and just seemed to want us to leave. The gentleman sommelier provided a brief tasting at the bar, we sampled four and purchased one. We took 15 bottles of Serafino with us and even this seemed to frustrate the female attendant.

Restaurant Alesha, our waitress was phenomenal! She was honest, professional and will be our favourite part of the entire Serafino experience because she holds herself in brilliant excellence.

Although we couldn’t be given a tasting at the cellar door, Alesha provided a small one for us to pair with our meal, which was a four plate entree and main tasting. The tortellini was fantastic and the beef was delicious. We even purchased another bottle of wine because of the tasting Alesha gave us, she did so well.

Georgia and Alesha are two treasures to be found on the Serafino estate and made our experience...

Lets start with the very limited good. |The rooms are a good size and The grounds are well looked after. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends.||The rooms are very old and dated, the bathroom is something from the 70’s and is in dire need of a refurb. You can also hear everything going on in the rooms either side of you||As far as service is concerned that is extremely bad.||We had a group of 32 booked in for a wedding. We had arranged for a buffet breakfast on the Sunday morning they advised they could do it at $25.00 per person. A couple of months later we were notified that it would now be $29.00 per person as the woman who had made this original agreement has now left the winery.||So without a choice we agreed to the $29 per person and booked that in. A couple of weeks before our arrival we get an email saying they cannot do breakfast AT ALL anymore due to staffing issues, however held another breakfast for other wedding guests the same day we were booked in???||We also booked an Al a carte dinner for 16 people on the Friday night. On the Monday the week before our arrival we were told that there is only now an option for a 2 course set meal or a 3 course set meal costing a lot more than what we AGAIN Already agreed on. So we cancelled the dinner reservation and went to another winery down the road.||When I asked to speak to the manager about all the original changes I was told that the woman who had sent the emails was the manager. So that should give you some idea of what your dealing with.||We had a 2 night stay and the cleaner came on the first morning and changed the bin. THAT’S IT. Did not bother to make the bed or touch the bathroom. ||Overall, the service at this winery is nothing short of terrible. We will never return here and advise...

I attended a function at Serafino Wines and Cellar Door this month and overall would highly recommend this place for whatever occasion resonates with you, whether it be visiting for a wine tour or tasting, organising a function or event, dining at the restaurant or even just having a look around at the splendid estate. The winery, restaurant, accommodation lies in the heart of the Mclaren Vale on a large area that is beautifully kept and pleasantly tranquil. As for the night. The staff and company were very reassuring with their stringent covid safe practices. Service for the night was highly professional and will catered flexibly to requests during the night. The food was delicious. We started with canapés on the deck including salt and pepper squid, bruschetta and pork by which were all delicious one biters. We then had a sit down multi-course menu featuring a mixed antipasti platter (duck terrine, chargrilled octopus, mixed cheeses, high quality cold cuts and more), a choice of beef fillet or swordfish, gnocchi with duck ragu and some cannoli to finish. Each wave was presented with care and the food was flavourful and reflected the deep Italian heritage in which it represents with a touch of modern flare and contemporary techniques. Highlights were the duck terrine, chargrilled octopus, swordfish (cooked to perfection) and cannoli (to die for). To top it off, we also walked through the newly renovated restaurant which was elegant, minimalistic and ambient. The wine speaks for itself, having won multiple national/ international awards and consistently receiving 95+ via James Halliday. The 2018 Sharktooth Wild Ferment Chardonnay is definitely worth a try.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Had a great time. Tried the wine tasting and dinner in our last night. Staffs were great especially Ant who looked after us during dinner, very cheery, helpful and pleasant. Wine tasting- just the 2 of us during the wine tasting. Great variety of wine and we ended up buying a few bottles. The dinner- such a great gastronomic experience. We had the 2 course meal, steak and pork belly and both were just absolute perfection. The steak perfectly cooked and the pork belly spicy and the tiramisu… one of the best tiramisu I’ve ever tasted. The bread served at the start was soft and fresh. Outside there’s a pizza stove so must be a hit during summer. The room- yes a bit dated and the r exhaust not working so getting misty each time we shower. The bed was massive king size, has the usual kettle, tea and coffee. There’s a seating outside facing the pool which I think must be great during summer. There are heaps of geese and birds living in the area. Pram and wheelchair accessible. Best part… the Shiraz trail is just beside the property. The same trail to reach the restaurants, Cole’s and other shops. Yes the accommodations are a bit dated but they make up for their great staffs and service, yummy dinner, wildlife and close proximity to the main drag.

A friendly greeting is always a good start and we certainly received that. A special night out and the layout of this restaurant is perfect for feeling a little special at your own table. White tablecloths and a minimalist setting at the table was appropriate. Alicia our server was a real gem and certainly knew her stuff with the wine pairing. We had perfectly prepared food in just the right size servings and despite the 5 courses if you add in the bread, canapés and palate cleanser it was certainly enough to satisfy. The wines were beautifully made and well selected for the course although one selection for me was that the Cabernet Sauvignon for my palate wasn’t quite right with the lamb back-strap. A fattier cut would have been more appropriate but again I only say that as to suiting my palate. Again Alicia asked our opinion on the matching and she thinly took my comments on board with grace. A great night out and for the price was exceptional value for money. Would do it again!
