Appin Bakery — Restaurant in Appin

I always get the same pie from here, if they haven't sold out. Mince, cheese, and Bacon. It's my all time favorite beach food. What got me hooked was the flakey puff pastry crust. I'm not a fan of short crust, so finding a meat pie I enjoyed was quite the struggle. I almost thought I would never like them. Until I found this place. I always buy a couple extra when coming here so I can take them home for later. I also, always disliked dessert pie, due to the short crust issue. But one day, we were going to visit my grandma and take her to the beach for the first time in a long while. We stopped for our usual meat pies and decided to pick up an entire apple pie as well. To share, of course. Well I'll be damned if I didn't have 3 pieces of that apple pie. I'm originally from America, but this place makes the best apple pie I've ever had. As American as apple pie.....well that may be the phrase, but these Aussies did it better. I also love their cream buns. That custard cream mixture is amazing! Google Profile Says 2:30 Closure. Called at 1:50 to check what they still had left. They confirmed a list of things and I said we would come in. Arrived at 1:59 and was told they had no hot food left, which was a lie, as I saw them give a look to each other, and then she changed it to “yeah but we close at 2” (it had now just turned 2pm)

Now, I understand that may infact be the closing time, but how does a popular business have the wrong hours of operation on what is likely their busiest day (Aussie day weekend)

I would suggest the staff are allowed to keep whatever is left at the end of the day, and so had little motivation to make the business owner any additional money.

I wouldn’t usually bother but we left a nicer location to come here due to reviews, and even took the time to call ahead, and still got shafted.

Read so much about this place and finally decided to go and check it out.

Steak & kidney pies as well as chicken & leek pies as the trial items. The pies were delicious and generous filled with deliciousness. The steak & kidney pies are usually what I use as my benchmark of a good pie maker and Appin Bakery not only met the mark, but exceeded it beyond my expectations.

The chicken & leek pie followed suit and the flavours were simply amazing. The pastry used in both pies were cooked to perfection and not burnt or soggy (which usually results in a messy end result).

As a general note, they do amazing pastries as well as freshly baked bread. I ended up trying the tea cake and it was simply superb!!!

Definitely my favourite bakery now....
