Words cannot describe how infuriated I am right now, absolutely embarrassed for the dinner service and so called hospitality we received tonight.
Our guests had driven over an hour to attend our birthday at your restaurant, only to be utterly disappointed by not one failure throughout the night, but many.
First of all, our tables were never set correctly, we had to wait about 15 minutes for wait staff to attend the table to ask for drinks and only after many failed attempts to wave one of your many floor staff down to serve us.
We were never asked if we wanted water on the table, something that should have been provided when first seated, such a simple task.
Entrees took over an hour to arrive at the table after multiple requests to floor staff to find out where they were, with one dish coming out, then the other two to follow almost 30 minutes later after that.
After multiple complaints to the staff about the time to get the entrees out, our guests were already over the wait, and just wanted to have their mains to finish the night. This took another 30 - 40 minutes. During this time, no interaction from floor staff to see if we wanted any refreshments, drinks or anything else to help get us through this night, only numerous apologies and a promise to remove the entrees off the bill. I advised your floor staff kindly that it is not about the money, but to please just get the mains out to avoid any further embarrassment to my guests.
After mains finally came out, 4 dishes out of 6 were delivered to our guests with the other two taking an additional 15 minutes. Our guests had to wait out of courtesy for our meals to arrive before they could start eating, which by that point, their meals were cold.
The only real service we received from the floor staff was when our mains were finished, to clear the table, I am assuming the staff just wanted to go home.
After mains, no offer for dessert menus, or plates or cutlery, or our cake that was being held in the fridge.... wow... just wow.
Throughout the night, we were not approached once, not once to see if we wanted any additional beverages to the table. Utter disappointment.
To top the night off, one of our guests offered to pay for the meals and was charged fully for everything even after being told that the entrees were not going to be charged. How embarrassed I was to advise the till person of the mistake and again had to call up my guest to head up to be refunded.
We ended up taking our cakes home and sharing them out there, it just seemed like your staff had no care at all to serve us and provide the most basic hospitality we paid for. No happy birthday, our guests and ourselves were just so bloody over the night.
Your food is good, but the service just ruined the night.
I have been a long time customer of Catalano and Co, purchasing takeout on a weekly basis, and this was the first time I had dined in at your premises. I can say with absolute honesty, you have lost my business for the events of tonight.
My partner had arranged this dinner as she knew this was my favourite spot, and now I have her here at home in tears, from the sheer embarrassment caused by this so-called dinner service, we talked so highly of Catalano and Co to our guests and they could not see why.
I operate in the hospitality industry also, and I can safely say you have some serious problems at this venue. It is not my job to highlight this to you, but all I can say for now is you have lost a very loyal customer and you have 6 very poor, and honest reviews being made for the restaurant.
I expect a full refund for this so-called dinner service, and an apology from management for such a poor...
Read moreMy first time at Catalano & Co today, and unfortunately my last. Walking in I asked if there was space for lunch, and the staff member voiced what an inconvenience this was. However there was multiple tables free, was towards the end of the lunch period, and the majority of these tables were still free by the time we left. If Brother of Mine was open I would have walked out and gone there instead. Sitting at the table I was shocked at the state of the black dining chairs, all over they were ripped and falling apart, to the point that I couldn't sit back in the chair as my clothes were getting caught. The young girl who served us was lovely, however she seemed to be the exception. A diner took up a dessert to the kitchen as it had a hair in it. The waitress then walked around with the dessert, showing multiple other staff members the hair and laughing about it. We watched her pull the hair out as we were eating which didn't exactly help our appetites. It's not overly surprising given the girl on the bar and two other waitresses all had long hair hanging down the front of their faces, surely for hygiene they would be told to have their hair tied back. My two children only ate half their burgers and I saw most people leaving with takeaway containers. I tried to get the staff's attention to ask if we could take them home, but was constantly ignored. I lost count of the amount of times I called out excuse me, and even when the person was right in front of me they would avoid eye contact and turn away. I'm not sure if they felt like it wasn't their job as possibly we weren't their table. After many attempts I finally got the attention of a staff member who was dropping off food right next to me, and she seemed irritated that I was speaking to her. She returned with a plastic takeaway container, which fit one burger fine, whereas the other had been smashed into the side as there was nowhere near enough room for it. It had to be thrown out as it was in a ball when we took it out of the container. I'm surprised this venue has such high reviews, as our experience was a...
Read moreI had a frustrating experience at this cafe that left a bad taste before I even got to try the food. I arrived around 10am with my partner and we sat at an unreserved table outside. I then went in to order two sandwiches. The staff member asked if I wanted the food now or to come back and pick it up, which already seemed odd. I asked why I couldn’t just get a table number so they could bring it out, like most cafes do. She responded that there were “no more tables available”, despite the fact that we were already sitting at one, and several others were clearly open and unmarked.
Still, I paid for my order and went outside to tell my partner that apparently we couldn’t sit there after all. While we stood there waiting for our now takeaway order, a family walked in off the street, sat at the exact table we had just vacated, and got full service with no issue.
It was hard not to feel like we were being judged, maybe for not ordering enough, or not “looking” like high spenders. Whatever the reason, the double standard was blatant and disappointing. It’s a shame, because I came expecting a good experience and instead left feeling unwelcome.
Won’t be returning.
Edit: In response to Catalano’s response, how does a family walk off the street straight onto a table without a reserved sign and without talking to any staff to know that it’s their table? Not to mention the numerous other tables without reserved signs at the time, keeping in mind it was 10am and not even half the tables were filled. This is just blatant lies to make yourself look better online. My family and I have come often (for over 7 years) and spent a lot of money at Catalonos, however myself and anyone I know will never come again after this embarrassment of a reply and attempt to deceive the public into thinking these reviews are...
