We were there for lunch 19th March 2019 and I was quite impressed with the renovations. It certainly made the restaurant look a lot smarter. The food was good. We had the Nam Yu chicken with fried rice, the signature Fish Head Noodle soup and Cantonese Hor Fun. I thought why not bring the rest of the family for dinner so we were there last night 23rd March. We were seriously disappointed. Perhaps we didn't order the right dishes?
We started with some hot and sour soup. This dish was dismal. It was overly sour and spicy and not flavoursome at all. There was very little ingredient in the soup itself so I think It was mainly vinegar & cornstarch. Disappointing. This soup at other restaurants is usually flavoursome with lots of shrimp, mushroom, bamboo shoots etc. We did provide feedback to waitress and asked that the chef taste his/her soup but she didn't come back with any feedback. The wonton soup was much better.
For mains we had:
Nam Yu Chicken which was lovely and crispy with a hint of Nam You flavour.
Salted egg yolk squid. The squid was perfectly cooked and tender but the sauce it was cooked in was overly salty. They might have forgotten that the Salted egg yolk is already salty to start with?
Crispy Beef. The beef itself had a lovely flavour that is if you could find it in amongst the onion. I think this dish was about 80% onion and 20% beef. Rather disappointing as the beef pieces were small to start with and then not being able to find much of it in the dish.
Garlic Kailan was an alright dish.
Overall I don't know what the fuss is. I'm not sure if because of the popularity of this restaurant means that they're sacrificing the quality of their food? If you want to experience this restaurant I suggest going for lunch and just ordering the lunch specials.
Unfortunately we were...

Re: Unreasonable rule re cut chilli While this restaurant has offered free cut chilli to go with each main dish as part & parcel of Asian cuisine combo, the management has starting to ration cut chilli to only a tiny sauce plate per mains recently, and any top up the staff would insist on charging 40c for each small saucer plate of cut chilli. We did try to reason with them that cut chilli is quasi essential to go with fish wing noodle soup, & they even have a self service counter for condiments previously. If wastage was the main concern, we feel there are other ways to help reduce waste by customers but restricting us to just a tiny sauce plate of cut chilli with all additional charge for each top up is perhaps the worst impact to the consumer’s enjoyment of their cuisine. Unfortunately this was the trigger for us to remember there are many more eateries worth visiting instead. I will truly miss this local eatery and hope the management realise the adverse impact to their customers. Short term gain, long term pain.
Nov’22 A local favourite for years if you are craving fish head noodle soup and black pepper fish wing with rice that reminds you of Malaysian cuisine. We always order their signature fish wing / fish wing noodle soup every time we go, plus the black pepper fish wing on their lunch special.
Tips: go early to guarantee a seat and quick service with ample parking OR you could face challenges on all...
Read moreHave been coming to this lovely restaurant for god knows how long. Comforting delicious food!!! My grandmother is a friend of the lady owner so she used to take us here to eat since we're at uni. And ever since then, we always come back...though unfortunately for me, it has been much less for the past 3 years because I have moved to NOR (I KNOW!!! SILLY ME for leaving SOR!!!) 🥺😭 but still...I always try to come from time to time, mostly for takeaways. The food is always amazing. Service is always friendly and quick and it's a kids friendly place. I love their fried fish wings with clear soup and pickled vegies. For some reason, their fish wings are always so much better and bigger and so fleshy despite being wings, whereas other places tend to have skinny fish wings with very little to no flesh. And what makes it even better is their generous portions. Then I also always get the bakcang and the han cim piang kueh too (don't know what it's called in English 😅)...they're always so irresistible haha. I also always take my parents here to eat when they come to Perth for a visit. The last time we came here was last year and we had such good family dinner (photos attached). Again, great service, esp there's one young uncle who served our table very well and fulfilled our requests promptly with all smiles...sorry didn't ask for his name. We hope this place is...
