The low stars is because at the end of the day, three people from a group of five didn't enjoy the food at all. And a teenage boy leaving half of a meat lovers pizza is surely a sign that things could have been better.
Menu: pretty much just exclusively pizza. Interesting range of dessert type pizzas which unfortunately we didn't try. Potions - generous. Nice decor and ambience.
The service was great - fast, friendly and attentive even though it was quite busy.
Food - this is where the review is not so positive. Two people in our group ordered the one pasta dish listed on the menu - lasagna. One of us liked it. But the other found it bland and needing salt. It was also really soft - if you like to chew your lasagna, you should order something else. This was not al dente - the dish is served in a bowl and has almost the consistency of a soup.
We tried 3 pizzas. Two of three diners didn't enjoy their order - carnivore and a funghi. The margherita order-er said hers was nice. All of the pizzas were doughy - if you like a crispy crust on your pizza you'll be a bit disappointed. I also found the dough to lack salt, and none of the pizzas had any herbs.
My funghi pizza (mushrooms with a drizzle of truffle oil) was made with blue cheese which pretty much overpowered any other flavor. The cheese was not browned and weirdly, the crust was both slightly burned yet also undercooked and rubbery. I think the oven may have been too hot.
Prices - maybe a little bit expensive. We paid $150 for 3 pizzas, 2 lasagnas and a drink for everyone. Not...
Read moreSome highs and some lows. I had the lasagna as I was intrigued to see what was meant by 1000 layers. It was indeed the most layers I'd ever had in a lasagna and I'm always a fan of lots of layers. A rich sugo was poured around the serving, while the layers themselves were quite thin with sauce. On the night, I found it tender and subtle in flavour. We had some leftovers -- one of my dining companions also had the lasagna, and didn't enjoy it, saying it was flavourless. So the next night I ate the leftover lasagna, and believe it was more flavourful than the first night. So the verdict from me is that I enjoyed it, as I don't mind subtle flavours and interesting approaches. The verdict from the other person was a definite no, as she is used to a meaty, cheesy lasagna. Others in our party had pizza, and again reactions were varied. My sense is that this restaurant is almost an exploration since it's not what you might be used to, and it may or may not work for you (see other reviews!) I had a small taste of the mushroom pizza and thought the balance of mushroom vs. truffle and blue cheese was not right, and they could have been more subtle with the strongly...
