MEAN BEAN DINER — Restaurant in Bullsbrook

I'm a little disappointed with the Mean Bean's interpretation of a "Chili Cheese Burger" The patty was acceptable, the bun is a bap, so good, no Brioche and the cheese is melted over the patty - nice. So why the low score, you ask - NO CHILI!! Surely chili is an integral ingredient of a Chili Cheese Burger? Huh? But no, no chili bite, no powdered chili, no chili sauce, no actual chillies on the burger - which was a bit dry as a result of this, only helped by the moist patty, fresh tomato and the melted cheese. I will concede that sauce was offered as an option as were Jalapenos, but when I remarked that no additional sauce was required because there should be chili sauce on the burger, the server did not correct my misunderstanding of the components of the burger. The service was polite, wait time a bit longer than expected and the server did not seem to remember the customers served - I returned to the counter 10 minutes after placing the order and was addressed as if I was a new customer. The table I sat at, the only one in the shade, had collapsed on one side and was at a 30degree angle, threatening to have the food slide off. The other tables were horizontal, but in full...

This place has come so far from when we first moved to Bullsbrook just under 4 years ago.

It must be under new owners as the service was friendly and the portions huge!

We ordered 2x fisherman’s baskets which include 1 fish, 3 squid rings, 2 crab sticks, heaps of chips and 2 crumbed prawns in each basket. We also added a curry sauce and mushy peas.

We couldn’t believe everything we received for $36 for two people, you cannot eat cheaper in Bullsbrook.

My only slight bit of criticism would be the batter. It was too thick and as everything was battered, so it was a bit sickening by the end. One last thing, maybe change the packaging or try poking some holes in the foam boxes as when they’re closed cause steam and the food to go a little soggy.

Overall would definitely be back, so glad we gave this local business another crack. So keen to try the huge variety of schnitzels they have.

Not Worth It – Won’t Be Back

Went to The Mean Bean and honestly wish I hadn’t bothered. I ordered the parmi and it was absolutely awful — dry, overcooked, and drowned in some weird sauce that didn’t even taste right. Honestly, the cardboard box it came in would’ve tasted better. Total disappointment.

The place itself was filthy. floors looked like they hadn’t seen a mop in days, and the whole vibe was just off. Not exactly somewhere you’d want to eat from.

To top it off, the staff weren’t friendly at all. No greeting, no smile, just a cold attitude like they didn’t want to be there — and it showed.

Save yourself the time and money. There are better spots around. This place seriously needs a clean-up, better food, and some staff who...
