3rd Space Hackett — Restaurant in District of Canberra Central

We Park family are well-known around Canberra for two things: our love for good food, and our ability to eat like it’s an Olympic sport.

From grandparents to the little ones, we’ve all got high standards — not just for taste, but for the joy a good meal can bring. And this place… it ticked every box.

The meat was so tender it practically dissolved before I could even chew. The pizza was rich, fragrant, and full of flavors that made us stop mid-conversation just to appreciate the bite. Every dish felt like it was prepared with care, not just cooked. We couldn’t find a single thing to criticise — except maybe that we couldn’t eat more.

But it wasn’t just the food. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that we enjoyed our time. They made our family feel welcome, like we weren’t just another table to serve.

We laughed, we shared plates, and for that evening, all that mattered was good food and the people we love around the table. That’s rare these days.

So yes — five stars. Not because it’s trendy, but because it gave us what every great restaurant should: food that fills the stomach, and moments that fill the heart.

I had the privilege of visiting 3rd Space recently, accompanying some primary school students there for an excursion as a part of an Italian immersion experience in line with their learning at school. The food that we ate was outstanding and despite the restaurant being closed to the public on this particular day, there was a great vibe and energy to the establishment. Alex literally captivated almost 50 students from the moment we arrived until our reluctant bus departure back to school for almost five hours. His passion, enthusiasm, professionalism and endearing personality was a sight to be seen. His cooking and food appreciation classes were first-class. The way that Alex engaged with all students in such a supportive manner, whilst always maintaining high energy and expecting focus from students was quite inspiring to watch. Canberra is full of great places to eat, but 3rd Space has something special with Alex at the helm. We stopped by for a takeaway dinner after work and got their wings (tossed in hot sauce with blue cheese on the side), the Tre Carne pizza, the Pappardelle Steak Ragu. Holy hell, folks, what a good choice we made. The wings are baked and not fried, so there’s no heavy breading, just good chicken tossed in their Buffalo style sauce. I’m an American, so to find Buffalo wings with a legit blue cheese dressing to dip them in is a real find. The pizza was perfect…per. fect. Big hunks of Italian sausage, great crust, savory sauce. The star of the show was the pappardelle. They don’t lie about the steak in the pasta; hunks of the most tender steak between the pappardelle noodles and ragu sauce which was simply unbeatable. The staff were so warm and welcoming, and a real pleasure to chat with. This place is definitely a hidden gem in Canberra. Take away dinner from here is gonna be a family...
