Hands down, the Best mocha in Canberra.... .....Not arguably friends, but most definitely.
Also the only coffee place in Canberra roaring to go prior to 7.10am every morning - come rain, hail or shine. That’s super impressive in my eyes, as (up until I began frequenting Doubleshot) I was used to being turned away from barista’s anything prior to 7.30am - Anyone with kids know that a good coffee is a required by 6am Standard to keep sane! 😂
It’s a place that is warm, vibrant and upon every visit has exhuded an atmosphere that is nothing short of charismatic & addictive! The staff are cool in a “humble-cool” way..... and it doesn’t have that prententious prep vibe permeating throughout most Canberra cafes at present!! (No offence intended with that- just being me!)
The decor is on point, the uniforms are so cool that they have been merchandised & avail to purchase, and the music is vibin’ - it’s one of the very few cafe’s in Canberra that is not ruined by an Idiotbox that patrons are glued to .....
Honestly, it’s just an all-round super positive & atmospheric experience.
Special mention goes to the raw vegan l Lime & pistachio slice. (From what I can see) a very informed & conscious decision to predominantly stock more raw vegan slices rather than sugar-filled, teeth-rotting, child-possessing goodies has a massive thumbs up and flag of support from myself & peers.
Always, always a favourite - Originally from Melbourne/Sydney and made the move to Canberra about 4 years back. Happy to be living in Red Hill - just a hop, skip & jump from this Haven in Deakin.....do yourself a favour Canberrians... Doubleshot in Deakin will not disappoint.
Keep on keeping on guys, thanks for serving us as you do & we want you to know we appreciate you and how awesome you all are. Love & light from...
Read moreWe go to this Cafe regularly. Today I popped up for lunch on my own. Easy to get a table and order, that's where the good stops. I ordered a steak sandwich with an egg. The egg cost an extra $4.50 (even an expensive free range dozen is about $9). A little expensive but hey I wanted the egg on my sandwich. I also ordered a sparkling water and was quite surprised when I realised they charged me $9 for a 500ml bottle of sparkling water - next time I'll just get tap. So my lunch for one, for a steak sandwich and sparkling water was $39.50 then add 1.5% card surcharge - never mind that there is no other way to pay 🤔 Anyway, the sandwich comes out sans egg. I tell the girl but she insists there is an egg on there. There isn't. I eat the first half and am about to let them know there is no egg when they come to me and apologise that there is no egg. My order had gone to someone else and I got theirs. When they realised that one had the egg they twigged to me having no egg... never mind that I'd told them that. They offered to refund the $4.50, then tell me they can't because their tyro cashless system won't let them. Technology is great until it isn't. At least 4 times they offered to cook me an egg and bring it out on its own. Ummm no thanks. Did I want something else from the menu.... no, and no to the second time they asked, and no (a little more forcefully) the third time they asked. I'm not sure why they thought it was okay to make their business process issue of not being able to refund me into my problem sigh Anyway in the end they pulled together enough coinage and gave me a refund. Overall the food was okay if overpriced for what it was, the ambience was as always - fine and a little quirky but the service was awful. I won't be rushing back for lunch for one...
Read moreWe’d visited Urban Pantry before and loved it, though the menu there at the moment seems pretty generic so we opted to try their sister cafe, Double Shot, in Deakin since the menu looked more interesting and extensive.
We get there early, which was lucky, for around 10:30 it got crazy busy, both for dine ins and takeaway.
I loved the colourful Nourish Bowl, complete with roasted pumpkin, miso eggplant, kale, beetroot jam, cashew and cauliflower cheese, organic kimchi, house pickles sitting atop brown rice. This is a dairy free vegan dish, but I chose to add on an egg for the protein hit. The bowl was flavoursome and filling and an enjoyable brunch dish (albeit expensive at $19 + 4.50 for an egg).
We also had one of their pies - crispy and buttery pastry, filled with slow cooked beef. Kurt thought it was a quality pie.
Other dishes available on the current menu include spiced chai porridge, oven baked granola, eggs Benedict, smashed avo, a breakfast burger, hot cakes and toasties to name a few.
Milk based coffees, espresso as well as milkshakes, thickshakes, organic tea, cold pressed juices, smoothie bar,
The cafe has a homely yet busy atmosphere. It is large, with indoor and outdoor seating and a natural wood cabin style feel to it with its stacked log wall display and hanging greenery, ropes and planter boxes.
Service was fast, except my three friends got their meal half an hour before me and I had to remind them. I’m also not fan of single use packaged boxes and plastic cutlery. This was implemented for Covid19 takeaway but they’re continuing to use it. I would much prefer proper plates...
