Edgar's is suffering from being too popular and not enough service staff.
Made a booking for our family, confirmed booking details with person on the phone.
Turned up, no booking. Was told to go find a spare table if you can. Not great.
Found a table outside the main area. Dark and next to the road. No heating. Had to go inside and ask for the heater to be turned on. Which they did, thanks!
Ordered the food on the menu website which indicated a 30 min wait time. The food arrived after 20 minutes which was acceptable.
Delivery of the food was not great.
One of the service staff delivered 2 plates straight to our table. Great!
However, we watched the other service staff wander around the area adjacent to ours searching for our table. He eventually found us. Had to negotiate some of the bushes and shrubbery around the tables and in doing so, knocked off some salad and chips off the plate. Oops!
Our table of four now has all the plates of food. But no cutlery at all. No cutlery available on the tables.
I go inside, no cutlery station. Speak to staff and was told that they were currently cleaning the cutlery, like literally in front of me.
Requested cutlery for four people as soon as possible. Waited 15 minutes, no cutlery.
Go back inside, retrieve two sets of cutlery and deliver to our table. So the meals can be finished. Meals by this time were cold.
Management need to schedule more staff for busy periods and also provide training. Setting up some self service stations and having cutlery on the table would also reduce staff load.
Cannot recommend this restaurant and had a very underwhelming experience. Was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Could be a great venue but currently needs serious improvements. I hope management read this review...

Read moreA few years back I started to post reviews to Google Maps. It was just for fun and because it’s good to acknowledge the local businesses that help make your everyday life worthwhile. I recently heard from Google that the photos with my reviews had been viewed over 300,000 times - who would ever have guessed?
It was ironic then that I had never mentioned the place I go to most of all – Edgars at Ainslie shops in Canberra. This is a location that has gone from strength to strength over the 20 years I have been going there. It now has the downstairs pub – the longest-running venue – and two upstairs venues, The Inn, a restaurant and bar, and Wakefields Bar, with more of a lounge feel. It also has a private dining area upstairs and Mama Dough, a pizza outlet downstairs.
We’ve been upstairs quite a few times, especially when Wakefields Bar has had jazz nights or when we’ve dined in the Inn and they’ve always been good and great fun. However, for versatility we can usually be found in the pub downstairs. Whether it’s a burger or breakfast or just coffee or a drink it works for us. Most recently, after a cool early morning at the Capital Region Farmers Market just down the road, I had a terrific breakfast of poached eggs and smoked salmon on muffins with spinach and hollandaise sauce. I’ve been going for 20 years and even though I have now moved to the opposite side of Canberra, I still keep coming back regularly. The proof of the pudding – or the burger – is...
