Good value overall given the wide range of options and mostly decent quality. Most dishes are mid-range quality but some are notably poor such as the tuna sashimi and certain cuts of meat, which is fair given the price. It is recommended to experiment with small portions of everything in your first visit to find what you love the most, and thus what to focus on for all subsequent visits!
The best dishes we found from previous visits include the beef “salad” with sweet chilli sauce, the smoked salmon in the salad area, Caesar salad (which actually has anchovies in it) with boiled eggs and sauce, roast beef with a variety of gravies, and a great variety of stir fries and noodle based dishes. There are also notably kid-friendly areas with pizza, fries and such which are mid-quality but ok. Notable desserts include soft serve ice cream, creme brûlée (notably delicious) and the chocolate fountain.
Overall, if you find your favourites and strategically target those on subsequent visits, it is well worth it, although be prepared for some disappointing quality in the exploration process. However, many dishes such as those noted above are high quality and given the buffets price, give incomparable value, especially considering the wide range of appetisers, mains and desserts.
The price is a bargain overall, but the bottomless drinks option is expensive, especially considering drinks are cheaper than food and technically fill you up quicker, thus reducing expenses per customer. However even considering this, the deal is worth it.
It is advisable to visit earlier in the day to be able to sleep later on! There is minor variation in the lunch / dinner menus (although mostly the same), so check out their menu to find what is...
Read moreI have visited the Star Buffet Canberra on three separate occasions for dinner and have not been dissatisfied with the price, food or service once. The price includes an extensive buffet with unlimited courses and you also have the option of including a bottomless soft drink package for a few dollars more. To be able to pay for three unlimited courses at the Star Buffet with a soft drink package is the equivalent of what most cafes and restaurants charge for an individual main course. The selection of food is substantial, with a variety that should appeal to a variety of tastes. There is a large selection of salads and cold cut meats, including prawns and other seafood, a large Asian selection of steamed and fried entrees, pizza and pasta bar, three soups, traditional roast meat carvery and accompanying vegetables, an Asian style carvery including duck, chicken, Char Sui pork, bbq pork ribs and pork belly. A selection of wok stir-fry including pork, beef, chicken and seafood dishes, noodles and fried rice. A Japanese section including stir-fry and a sushi train with a large variety on offer. The dessert buffet included a selection of cakes but a prominent selection of petit four style sweets and a selection of fresh fruit. Soft serve ice-cream and a chocolate fountain with a selection of sweets and confectionery was also offered. The service and table clearing is exceptionally good. This is a large dining area with a capacity of 300+ and the tables are cleared of your plates as you browse through the buffet again with a new plate. Potentially the only downside of the dining area is because of the number of people there it...
Read moreYou MUST try Star Buffet Canberra at Burns Club. At $25 all you can eat lunch buffet, was really worth it. Food is great and fresh, catering for all tastes. Some of the food available was: beef and pork roasts, roasted vegetables, butter chicken curry, chicken nuggets, chips, pizza, meat stir fries, vegetable fried rice (very nice) combination fried rice, pumpkin soup, corn soup, dumplings, steamed vegetables, char sew pork, pork ribs, fried chicken, garlic bread, spinach and ricotta lasagne (nice too), spaghetti, red bean soup, honey chicken, sushi varieties (on a conveyor), Cesar salad, coleslaw, olives, hard boiled eggs, artichoke, beetroot salad, edamame salad and many more. The reason I couldn’t give a five starts is unfortunately some of the hot food was a bit cold. This was the only negative I could find. For dessert, there was also plenty to choose from including mousses, chocolate pudding, apple crumble, pavlova, some fruit and marshmallows on stick to dip in a chocolate fountain. Sweet highlights were soft serve ice cream and panacota. It includes free coffee and tea, try the espresso coffee- is perfect. Service was exceptional, tables are constantly being looked after and cleaned. Food is constantly being replenished on the buffet. There are plenty of tables and some tables are joined for large groups. The facilities are also excellent with modern fittings and all very clean and well maintained. I wish there was a restaurant like that close to...
