Was served by a middle aged woman who was fiddling about behind the counter, was waiting until she was ready, when it became apparent she was going to ignore me, I gained her attention. She gave the impression of being put out having to serve me. I only had a piece of orange cake, which was stale. Spoke to another staff member who was helpful/professional (hence the stars I did give).

Initially I gave the place 2 stars, but the manager's sense of humour (illustrated below) is worth at least another star. This trait was not evident during our first encounter. Furthermore, if the service at the counter was as prompt as the response to this review, I'd have happily given the place 4 stars. Dear big boss; I wouldn't say she provided inferior service at the servo, it was about on a par with what you provided. I didn't think of that, the only other plausible explanation is that she may have been starstruck! (you've no doubt encountered this yourself) Anyway I'll phone in ahead of time, if I decide to pop in, so you don't make the same mistake. If it's any consolation I think it may be a case of mistaken identity anyway, after all, there's no way someone who responds to a negative review with such class would be guilty of rude service. But, then again, you seemed to identify the subject of the review as yourself very quickly for some...

I ordered the Mr Fox and my friend had the chicken burger. The food was dry and flavourless. The bread was also soggy. We booked for 4 adults and 2 kids, and were shoved Into a small corner of the cafe and had to request a high chair again. This high chair wasnt baby safe, and we certainly wouldn't recommend coming here. considering the prices at this cafe I expected better.

Replying to owner:

We booked for 4 people and requested 2 high chairs, so how about you check your facts. That's 6 people. The high chairs only had one cross strap making them extremely unsafe. Not exactly asking for a lot with a third strap thats literally everywhere else weve been. It took you close to 30 minutes to even bring a high chair in the first place.

A tiny table of 4 in the corner when you knew 4 adults and 2 kids were coming is just irresponsible.

Not sure why you're lying either. We were never offered a table, we would've accepted it without question if you had.

I've eaten there before and the food was amazing. Sorry to break it to you, but it was some of the worst food I've had out in years. It's really obvious you can't take...

Staff are rude, unfriendly and more concerned about making a profit.

We had six people so phoned to see if we can reserve a table as the cafe is very small and busy on weekends. We were told they don't take bookings but were ensured we'd get a table.

Upon arriving there were no tables free and we ended up having to stand outside in the cold and rain for around half an hour with constant promises of a table.

Whilst waiting, we noticed the bar/bench seating was empty. When the staff were asked why, they said someone had made a reservation......

To make matters worse, when a table was finally cleared they expected six people with six meals and drinks to fit on a small table for maybe four.

Noticing the table next to us was about to leave, we asked if we could drag that across to give us more room. The staff didn't seem keen on this, and acted quite annoyed when we pounced on the table before they did.

The food and coffee? Coffee was very average and slightly burnt. The food is basic, under-whelming and extremely over priced (basically $25 for eggs and bacon).

On top of that, expect a massive weekend surcharge.

We...

One of the things my family and I were looking forward to upon moving to Farrer was trying Fox and Bow, one of the most renowned cafes in Canberra. From our old place, it could be a 30-minute drive, but now it’s a five-minute walk from our place. Our first time there, my daughter had a classic chicken and bacon burger and chips, which were quite nice. My wife had Spanish eggs, which she said were definitely among the best breakfast dishes she's had in any cafe in Canberra. But I have to tell you that the Japanese curry crab omelette will be worth a drive from any point in the ACT. Positively exploding with flavour, this omelette is inventive, textured, and absolutely unforgettable. A Must-try for anyone who loves crab. I understand now why Fox and Bow earned this stellar reputation. No doubt, this Farrer Café will be the site of many happy breakfast memories for me and my family in the years to come.

Fox & Bow Cafe is a standout spot that delivers an excellent dining experience. The chef’s skills are truly impressive—every dish is prepared with care and creativity. The omelette here is the best in town: fluffy, full of flavour, and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere at Fox & Bow is warm and welcoming. Whether you come alone or with friends, you’ll feel relaxed and comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive, making sure you have everything you need. If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy breakfast or brunch, Fox & Bow Cafe is highly recommended. The combination of amazing food, a talented chef, and a great atmosphere makes it a must-visit. Don’t miss their omelette—it’s a local favourite for a reason.

Lovely spot for brunch with fabulous coffee! Popped in today for a spot of brunch, lovely atmosphere and service. It is strongly recommended that you book a table, or get here early; this place gets busy. Food is order from counter, there are no meal substitutions (it’s on the menu). Service was prompt and friendly. Food was lovely with a broad array of tasty breakfast and brunch treats. There is a little mistake with my order, but nothing that wasn’t solved with a quick discussion. Fox & Bow serve Ona Coffee, pretty solid all round! Medium take away coffee was $5.50 which is a little on the expensive side, but certain was well made. Would happily pop in for breakfast again!
