Disappointed by our experience here as it seemed like such a beautiful cafe with lovely views of Emu Point. We walked in and waited to be seated, and a young waitress stood right near us and didn’t even look at us or acknowledge us with a hello or even indicate that she would be with us shortly. She seemed to be in a foul mood. She just bluntly called out to a separate couple in a disgruntled voice to follow her. Moments later, another young girl greeted us and was much more friendlier. She showed us to our table and shortly after my husband ordered our breakfast and coffees at the counter. Our breakfast came out super quick not long after ordering which was awesome, but our coffee still hadn’t been served to us yet. We got three quarters of the way through our breakfast and still no sign of our coffees. We noticed another table with the same issue, and someone from that table got up and politely asked for their drinks to be switched to takeaway as it was too long of a wait and they had already eaten their breakfast. We could see that their drinks were just about to be served, and because the drinks needed to be converted to takeaway, the same girl who ignored us at the start, didn’t even bother to respond to the customers question, she just turned her back to him, and while walking away she rolled her eyes and scuffed her feet. Her attitude and demeanour was really uncomfortable to watch. Poor customer service right there. Eventually when we got our coffees, mine was incorrect, but I didn’t even want to let them know as I didn’t want to deal with that same waitress. We watched this same waitress serve food and coffee all over the cafe with a constant unimpressed look on her face. Overall, the coffee was OK. The food was nice and was presented very beautifully. The views of the water were beautiful despite the windy cold morning we had. The menu was impressive with plenty of options to choose from, including the drinks menu too. Definitely a stand out! I feel like the cafe has great potential and would be perfect on a hot summer day due to its prime location. But our experience was sadly ruined by the disappointing service of this particular waitress. Hopefully if we come back, we will experience...
Read more30 years ago the Emu Point cafe was operated by a lady who produced the most divine hamburgers on the planet. Many of us 'locals' would go there on a Sunday just to have one for lunch. It was a 'haven' for many elderly residents of Albany, who seemed to have been addicted to those huge burgers on specially baked Scottish Baps. Sadly this business was sold when she herself must have decided to take a well needed rest& retire. The new owners immediately embarked on a 'revitalisation' of a tried & true menu with what they must have considered was 'progressive.' I remember the first hamburger I ordered in those days & I vowed to never return! It was an airy fairy 'burger' on a 'brioche' bun, covered in flour, & I hated it! My partner & I have gradually returned over the years but usually only for a coffee. I am unsure who actually owns & runs this cafe now but there is a disturbing trend. Like many cafes in Albany the operators seemed to have jumped onto the 'foodie bandwagon' where the meal offerings are described in exotic terms which are supposed to transport us to culinary nirvana! Their prices also seem designed to make us think that paying $29 for a 'pulled pork' burger with Korean sweet n sour complete with ' nam jin' on a milk bun is good value? It may well be but. What?I ask, ever happened to good wholesome food & described as such. Sadly us pretentious Australians seem to have lost the plot when it comes to eating out. The Emu Point Cafe is not alone when it comes to pretentiousness. Their food is ok like many similar establishments around town but I wouldn't go around raving about it, especially when it is described in such exotic terms. Oh for those long lost, '...
Read moreStopped for breakfast in this little cafe by the water. Excellent location, great views, waitress greeted us and promptly cleared our table we were seated in.
The only thing was the wait time. Our coffee and iced drink came out about 20-25 mins after ordering. Our food was still nowhere, so upon checking we were informed it was 2 dockets ahead. While the staff member apologised for the wait time, it didn’t seem too sincere and sounded quite cashal. It had already been 40 mins at that time. A heads up while being seated of the long wait would have been good as we had plans for the day.
The food arrived after 53 mins, very casually as if it was a normal time to wait.
The food and drinks were actually really good. I had the cilber eggs, which had unique ingredients and was definitely a 15/10. Wouldn’t even say the service was bad, but was not great either as we would have appreciated the heads up on the wait time.
I work in a cafe myself so I also understand sometimes things happen in the background; unexpected issues, short staffed, busier than normal, but always ensure to communicate. I wanted to give honest feedback so that your guests in the future won’t find the same issue. The food was really good, the team on shift were hardworking, just a little bit on this part of guest communication is very important. Would have given 4 stars if it wasn’t for...
