Recently went to Saint Aidens for afternoon tea. It didn’t appear to be busy but It took a while to be served, as in about 10 - 15 minutes. We ordered tea and scones. The tea aririvrecvafter about 10 - 15 minutes. But no scones.
After another 10 minutes we walked to the counter to enquire how long the scones would take (in case we had been forgotten). Another 10 minutes later the scones arrived. However, the scones were frozen in the middle. We notified the. Staff and asked for them to me warmed. There was no apology.for this.
Yet another 10 minutes later they brought our scones, only this time they were nuked (had obviously been microwaved for too long). We attempted to eat them but they were too hard and dry to be eaten.
We then notified the wait staff they responded with “Well , you’ve eaten half of them” . Again, no apology. Asked us if we would like to speak to the manager, we said yes, most definitely. After a while we saw the manager coming out of the kitchen with a bottle of wine and headed straight to his car and left the premises. We were told the manager was not available. We said just saw him leave, to which the wait person said “Well, he has been here all day”’!
It was reminiscent of Faulty Towers, however, better to be watching rather than...
Read moreWe had our anniversary lunch here, and by god we wish we hadn't. The annual anniversary meal is one that needs to deliver. We started with the antipasto plate. I like the word 'fresh' however it really doesn't apply here. The meat had that waxy sheen of being left out for too long, anything pickled had long oxidized and changed colour and the crackers tasted like Captain's Table finest. The entire impression was that of a plate prepared a fair while ago. The lamb completely lacked any real flavour because one surface was completely coated in burnt rosemary. It had all the wet appeal of having sat in a bain marie for the morning. The pork belly... where do I even start? It was not pork belly, it was some odd mix of reconstituted pork meat shaped like the medallion of your nightmares. We gave on persisting with this after finding something resembling a large blood vessel in the mess. The prawns on the pork were great. To finish with this delightful experience we had four flies opt to land and die on our table / in our drinks while we were there. So we were clearly not the only ones that were unimpressed. The waitress was very lovely and was the only highlight of...
Read moreSo much potential, if a couple things were improved it would be an easy 5! This seems like an establishment in the midst of an evolution, from homey, casual family vineyard to a more established fine-dining venue. But, they aren't quite there yet.
The location is beautiful, and the service lovely. Food was good, but portions were small for the price. The menu was quite seafood-heavy, and one of our table didn't eat seafood so the had very limited options.
The main dining room is in a glass conservatory, which provides panoramic views of the grounds, but because it is all glass it's very echoey and loud. There was a big group while we came, so it was actually hard to hear each other. The tables, chairs and dinnerware were quite basic. Again for the price you are kind of expecting a slightly nicer experience.
Overall, it was a nice lunch, but not sure I'd go back just yet. Might give them a chance to finish...
