Our review of "The Old Bank Cafe" at 20, Kinchela Street, Gladstone, N.S.W.
My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at "The Old Bank Cafe" last night and not only found it to be a nice location, but the food was excellent and the staff were top notch.
On arrival, our host, Alan Cummins, showed us to our table which overlooked the beautiful Macleay River, right on dusk. Just perfect for a few nice photos.
We were then offered a nice cold bottle of water, and were left to relax for several minutes to take in the wonderful scenery before ordering.
We decided to try the whole warm camembert, with rosemary, garlic, honey & candied walnuts served with melba toast for our entree.
For our mains, my wife had the barramundi with a mango salad and I settled on the seafood box, which contained a selection of whiting fillets, calamari, scallops, fresh king prawns and chips served along with 3 dips and a side salad.
We also had a bottle of "Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc" for the duration of our entree and mains. It was a crisp dry wine with a hint of passionfruit, that complimented our meal nicely.
For dessert, my wife had the white chocolate cheesecake, and Alan suggested I try the rasberry chocolate roulade with rasberry coulis and cream.
I then topped off a most enjoyable meal by indulging in a cappuccino.
In conlusion, I would say that the food was of a very high standard, and each course was delivered to our table at just the right intervals. Our host, was polite and the views were wonderful.
In summary...
If you'd like to spend a few hours enjoying a terrific meal in a fantastic location, you could do much worse than visiting "The Old Bank Cafe" at Gladstone... We'll definitely be returning.

Read moreMy husband and I had a magical experience staying overnight at the Old Bank Gladstone. We stayed in the exquisite Magnolia room which boasts both luxury and high class with a beautiful four poster bed, a fire place, beautiful ensuite bathroom and and stunning crystal chandalier. We had a romantic dinner for two, on the veranda overlooking the famous Macleay river while watching a magnificent Sunset. Our every need taken care of by our beautiful Hosts Tania and Alan including a cheese platter and cherry bomb mocktails for entree and champagne with dinner. Our meals were absoultly delectible, my husbands steak cooked to perfection while i had the delicious chicken and Cambert and seriously sinful teramisu for dessert. A soak in the hot tub overlooking the gorgeus evening views of the river before curling up in our seriously comfy bed with super soft sheets. Hospitality, and Service is A1 at the Old Bank Gladstone, including the resturant which serves delicious and beautifully presented meals, while offering the most magical and ambient atmosphere of a lovingly, restored home and stunning river views . Hygene of all facilties is at superb cleanliness and attention to detail ( including roses in our room) is a sweet detail for guests. Despite the old world charm of the bnb's rooms every mod con including fridge, safe, air con, towel warmer and delicious "ritual" body products are included . I cant think of any other stays in a Bnb that has compared to our stay at the Old Bank Gladstone. Will ensure to be returning soon. Thankyou to Amazing Hosts...
Read moreWe had our wedding and reception here on Saturday and the whole experience was fantastic. We wanted an informal, intimate family function and from the moment we first sat down with Tania and Alan we were confident they would deliver. They are consumate professionals and bent over backwards to ensure everything went off without a hitch. The stunning, renovated premises by the river made for a beautiful backdrop for our ceremony and the meal was absolutely first class, capped off by a delicious raspberry roulade which doubled as our wedding cake. We spent the night in the magnificent Magnolia Suite and were touched to find a wedding gift from the hosts waiting for us in our room. Despite being fully booked for a Mothers Day high tea the following morning, Tania offered to cater for any family members who wished to join us for breakfast on Sunday and of course the pancakes, eggs benny and big brekkies were also superb. We could not speak highly enough of the staff, the venue or the food at the Old Bank and many of our guests went out of their way to come and tell us how much they'd enjoyed the evening. Our wedding was everything we dreamed it would be, largely due to Tania, Alan and their team making the arrangements so effortless, and if we were holding another function on the Macleay this would be...
