The quaint little country town of Goomeri has a special meaning to me. It's where I grew up. So please forgive me if this rating sounds biased. Because it is! Lol
Goomeri Bakery is the most recent in a short line of businesses to occupy the building known to people of my generation as "The Chemist's Shop", having been run by several Chemists over the years like Peter Quigley, Trevor Chiccero etc.
Goomeri Bakery is run by the owners of the local Joe's Grand Hotel and their commitment to serving the local community and travellers, passing through this tiny town, with tasty culinary delights and local oils, jams and spreads, nibbles, nuts 🤪, NO, NUTS 🥜 etc etc is second to none.
I visited my old home town today, to commemorate ANZAC Day with 3 of my kids and my beautiful Granddaughter and to show appreciation and carry the Service Medals of both my Father, who was a local WWII Veteran, and my Maternal Grandfather, who, even further back than that, was a local who enlisted in the famous Australian Light Horse, in WWI, in 1915.
Now, back to the yummy goods at the Bakery.
From delicious home made pies and savouries to crusty breads and rolls to Danishes and a Chocolate Eclair that would sink a duck 🦆, to Barista made coffee ☕ that tastes like proper coffee, not hot water and milk over a few weak beans, to the yummy Dusty Hill fudges and handmade jams and chutneys and pickles to take home, you'll find something to temp your tastebuds at Goomeri Bakery.
It is true enough that some may consider some of the prices as being on the higher side of "reasonable", but, look at the SIZE and QUALITY of what's on offer guys! Anyway, you'd expect to pay similar at any of the Boutique Bakerys in any Metropolitan or Costal areas anywhere in Australia, and from someone who's been unknowingly forced to pay a ridiculous $45 for a small bowl of Chicken Noodle soup at a "Tea Rooms" in a similar sized tiny country town in NSW, I had no problems in paying the, reasonable enough, prices and even the 15% Public Holiday surcharge to purchase such beautiful and fresh and delicious treats.
The prices of these delights is made even more reasonable when you realise that Goomeri is well known for Joe's Grand Hotel, each and every year, supplying anyone attending the town's ANZAC Day Dawn Service with a complimentary, completely free, yes, FREE, "Gunfire breakfast" of Cheesy, Savoury Mince and veg, toasted sandwiches AND FREE, endless supplies of Coffee, Tea, Glasses of milk and endless FREE bottles of RUM and clean glasses on the bar for anyone to indulge in a little tipple of the Soldiers traditional Rum and Milk or Rum and water "Heart Starter" Lol.
Goomeri is the Junction of the Burnett Highway (leading to Nanango in the South and Gayndah in the North) and the Wide Bay Highway (connecting to the Bruce Highway at Bell's Bridge just north of Gympie) and so has a lot of through traffic.
So next time you're travelling through this little place, make sure to stop and grab yourself some yummy treats from...
Read moreAh, Goomeri Bakery—the crown jewel of pastry perfection!
In the heart of small town inland from Gympie lies Goomeri bakery. Nestled among rolling hills and sun-drenched roads, stands a bakery like no other. It’s not just a place where flour meets butter; no, Goomeri Bakery is a sanctum of craftsmanship, a shrine to the pastry gods.
The locals whisper tales of its pastries—flaky, golden pockets of pure joy, engineered to perfection. Travelers come from far and wide, braving the long stretches of country backroads for just one bite, only to find themselves forever changed, their taste buds reprogrammed to crave nothing but Goomeri’s bakery’s culinary magic.
But at the heart of this bakery’s legend lies its pièce de résistance: the custard pie or custard tart as some call it. A marvel of creamy decadence, this custard isn’t merely whipped up—it’s summoned. The crust, a delicate embrace, holds the smooth, velvety custard like a treasure chest of indulgence. One bite, and time slows. Birds sing a little sweeter, the sun shines a little brighter, and all life’s troubles dissolve into a symphony of pure delight. You cannot buy just one, and you dare not ask for a bite, or even ask someone to share as that would be sacrilege!!!
For the fortunate souls who step through the doors of Goomeri Bakery, the experience isn’t just about food—it’s a transformation. They leave not as customers, but as disciples, spreading the gospel of pastry perfection to all who will listen.
And so, the...
