Sushi Mate Deception Bay — Restaurant in Greater Brisbane

I honestly have no idea how this place has so many good reviews.. the "ramen" (that was meant to have cheese on it, but didn't come with any) is, I'm fairly certain, a Nongshim packet ($2 at Woolies) with some stuff added on top. At first I was brought the wrong order, then found a hair in my replacement, which put me off eating to say the least (I didn't have to pay for it, which was nice). The "karaage squid" is pretty good. Curry tofu: the tofu had a strange texture, the curry tasted like those small packets of pre-made Japanese curry mix that had been watered down. Plus the hair.

Overall, no where near being authentic Japanese food in terms of taste or quality.

Was pretty disappointed given the good reviews. :( Won't ever be coming back. Will just drive further down to the closest Sushi Train next time I want Japanese.

Every couple of weeks I take everyone in my family to Sushi Mate. The flat rate plates are a real cost saver at this restaurant. For example, Aburi Salmon at Sushi Train is at least a $5 plate but at Sushi Mate it is about $4. Plate for plate this starts to add up fast, particularly if you like premium plates like I do. Walked in and asked cashier, young girl with pony tail, to sit at our usual booth, which by her facial expression did not make her very happy. Lady with tattoo and dyed hair was either on her phone, squatting behind the counter or talking to the person making sushi to order, which was the only staff apart from the older lady in the back kitchen that knows how to smile.
