GO ELSEWHERE FOR DINNER. There is plenty of competition in Griffith with good food!

They don’t pick up the phone to take any sort of order or bookings, even though it says you can call from 4pm, well before service starts. You can walk into the restaurant but they are too busy chatting to each other to notice. One lady noticed and took my order. She did not want to know why I couldn’t get through on the phone to order????

Meals are so expensive compared to what you get. Main-size portion but I have never paid $33 for a bowl of pasta ever, in all my years, from Darwin to Hobart. My Nonna would have been appalled at the size of the serve. Medium takeaway container 3/4 full, with no remnants of any Gorgonzola. I think they just wafted that beautiful cheese over the top. Gnocchi was soft but that’s the easy part if you are supposed to be a good old Italian restaurant.

The kitchen and pizza bar staff are overly reliant on their fancy black gloves to think about what they are touching with them, without re-washing their gloves as they move from area to area. I watched them wash their gloves instead of their hands many times. Take off your gloves if you are leaving your workstation. Wash your hands before you apply fresh gloves.

A nice restaurant, has a nice feel to it , with a good atmosphere specially when packed out with people, the room gets a bit stuffy and hot though. Walking down to it on these giant slopping stairs was a bit like entering a dungeon. The food is pretty good, though nothing award winning, the menu's are good, just some aspects of the food could be a lot better, like the way they prepare the dishes, sizes of the meals are average, compared to other places that serve good Italian cuisine, like Gillespie's or ilCorso's or even Belvedere's. The wine list is good though with some interesting local wines with some great blackboard specials for something more expensive and tasty. The service was great, minimum wait on the meals, even though the restaurant was busy, maybe this is why the dishes are a bit basic and could be better prepared. But all up a...

There was a short walk from town to get to La Scala and it's more than worth it!! After opening the front door there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere of a surprisingly packed restaurant for a Tuesday night. The staff quickly found me a seat, in spite of the fact I hadn't booked. The staff were endlessly helpful, amazingly friendly, and arrived exactly when needed. I ordered a Pizza and, thanks to the woodfired oven and great chefs, the best pizza in Griffith arrived at my table less than 10 minutes later. My only disappointment was that I didn't have room for any dessert as I was silly enough to order a large pizza, but that's hardly the restaurants fault.
