The Plough Echunga — Restaurant in Hahndorf

Unkind, rude and in my experience, prejudiced owners.

My partner and I came here for an hour stop whilst he took a call. I worked on the table inside at 1:30pm and my partner took a table outside (of which almost 80% of them were empty. They asked me if someone came in and needed to share my table would I mind, and I politely said "Of course not"

They then proceeded to ask me to move from my table in 20 mins as there was a table of 4 coming, which I said was fine. When prompted to move, I moved so to another empty table. Then they proceeded to tell me off that 'this is now how business is run, you can't just sit here and take up a table". The tone was very abrupt, rude and dismissive.

I was very polite about this and apologised. But I came back to share with them that their tone was rude and that they could have explained this better. I said I didn't understand that it was not okay to move to an empty table and they asked me to leave. There were also SO many empty tables. It felt like discrimination. I can tell by their responses to comments and reviews on Google that their attitude is terrible. Comments like "Your attitude is DISGUSTING and you should be ashamed of yourself" really displays their general behaviour.

Avoid if you don't want to...

The cafe was empty except one table. We decided to go and order coffee and tea because we had had our lunch and wanted somewhere to wait for 20 minutes. The owner came 5 minutes after our tea arrived and told us that the table is reserved and we will have to leave. We asked there were many empty tables, if we could sit on those. He said " You have been here for 30 minutes" - which was not true because we had to be somewhere on time and we only had 15-20 min. Anyway, we decided to leave our tea and the cafe.

My husband even politely said we will be back to try some meals another time - at the time of the order.

if the cafe was busy, we would totally understand but it was all empty. There was only one table that was occupied. This was a strange experience and we will never be returning back.

We want to be able to enjoy our meal and drinks, not be forced out of the cafe. Moreover, we went past and the tables were still empty. I was thinking of buying some breads, but of course not after this behaviour....

Sadly we had a bad time with one of the waiters forcing us all to place an order ( we were 5 ppl and 4 of us ordered) , same situation with other table but they were not asked in the same rude way. We felt discriminated

1. the table we were at barely could fit 5 people, not 8 as you claimed
2. unfortunately your cafe was the only empty place we found in the whole area, so we had no option. It was not busy at all as you mentioned!!
3. anyone can see my review history and realise that what you said is false.
4. looking at your review history I found other negative feedbacks in which is evident your incapability to take the feedback for improvement of your own business
5. I think you should not speak on behalf of the other Hahndorf establishments where we actually had an amazing experience
6. if you are unable to take feedback for improvement of your business, it will remain the way we found it...
