Cafe 3858 — Restaurant in Heyfield

Don't arrive late-morning on a Sunday!

My friend and I arranged to meet at Cafe 3858 on our way to retrieve some walkers near Lake Tali Karng. On arrival we discovered that the breakfast menu was finished and that the lunch menu was not yet available - which was made more frustrating because the display cabinet had already been filled with the food that was to be sold as lunch!!!

As we knew that this was to be our last available café until our return 5+ hours later, we ordered coffees and a muffin. The coffee was acceptable, the muffin had been reheated and lost its structural integrity.

I'm not sure I rate Cafe 3858 as Good, but Poor-Fair seems a bit too harsh. I've had a lot worse in small town cafés. I would not travel to Heyfield for this café, but if you are already passing through when the kitchen staff are working it is...

We left Licola where we were camping over the weekend where we were in peace with nature and I was reluctant to go to a cafe which would impact on my tranquility. Nevertheless we were hungry so came across this cafe. From the moment we entered to the moment we left, it felt like we had visited a friend's home. The food was beautifully presented, prices were great, and the taste of the food we ordered was delicious. The owner radiates positivity. Our server was very shy but very polite, so there was no issue. For me and my partner this Cafe is definitely on our revisit list.

By the way I went to an interview recently for a job that only pays in vegetables. I declined their offer as I wasn't happy with the Cellery.

We decided to go for a drive and have lunch out, so we wanted to support a-small country town. We drove 115klm to Heyfield (230klm round trip), at 12.55pm I initially went into the cafe to review the menu as due to medical issues my husband cannot eat all foods. Whilst I was checking the menue I was approached by a lady who said “can I help you”, so I explained I was looking at the menu where she promptly informed me that there were not serving any lunches, I was amazed, I pointed out the time and was told again we have finished serving lunches. Needless to say after that attitude we left, we drove back to Sale only to find everywhere was closed. So much for supporting...
