Nate's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Hobart

While staying at Seven Mile Beach on a Sunday night, we were pretty low on dinner possibilities but had read that some people happily drove 20+ minutes for Nate's pizza so we thought we ought to give them a try. We are so glad we bothered to drive the 10-15 minutes.

On a Sunday they are only available for takeaway pizza (no kids menu or pasta), and to our completely surprise Nate's is located in the common room/reception of a caravan park. Sometimes hole-in-the-wall places are hailed as gems and Nate's is a diamond.

We had the garlic pizza, satay chicken pizza and the FigJam pizza. The (fresh) FigJam pizza is by far the best pizza I've ever had in my life. The satay chicken pizza was good but was even better reheated the next day. The garlic pizza was good, but a bit too strong even for a garlic-lover like myself.

The prices were reasonable and if you're within driving distance (or not), do yourself a favour and order the Fig Jam pizza...

5 star steaks with 6 stars service! We were staying at the caravan park and had not booked a table. The restaurant was very busy and we were told they were booked out. Feeling a bit disappointed and also a bit silly for not booking we sat at the bar to have a drink and think about our options. The owner came out of the kitchen and said he could squeeze us in which was really amazing as we could see how busy they were. The food was real quality. The steak was cooked exactly how we asked for it and was easily one the best we have had anywhere. Dessert was another winner with brownie and creme brûlée. Both amazing. Situated within a caravan park I had no great expectations. Upon entering the restaurant the atmosphere is pretty low key with very plain decor and no windows. The service was outstanding but the greatest surprise was the food, it would rival many top end establishments. The menu was a little limited but more than compensated for by the quality of the food.
