2022: I have dined in and purchased takeaway food here on many occasions this year, and it is THE best Chinese food I've found in WA! Though you will pay high-end prices, they do serve excellent sized portions, full of flavour : mouthwatering, value-for-money: excellent imo.
UPDATE: January/February 2023. I've revised my previous review to reflect my last 2 experiences here.
In 2022, I ate in & purchased takeaway food from this restaurant many times, and though highly priced (deservedly yet understandably) , the food was always simply outstanding!
2023: I bought takeaway here on 2 occasions this year, and suddenly, the quality of food has plummeted to appalling.
For example: $40 for a takeaway scallop dish, which looked and tasted like it came out of a Kan Tong jar. The scallops were nearly raw (& I'm an ex Fisherman/seafood cook and know my seafood).
They sold me a simple $30 fish dish - which included chicken. This, despite assuring me that a meatless version was available and which I then chose. Unbelievably, they admitted, "Yes, they had still included the chicken," after I came back to the restaurant to query the issue. Really???!
I didn't discover the included chicken till I'd returned home and opened the dish to serve - several suburbs away. I was NOT impressed with having to waste my time travelling all the way back to Kardinya after finishing a long, hard work day . I only went to the trouble of doing this because their prices are high, and I don't appreciate not getting value for my hard-earned money.
Generally speaking, all of the many dishes I bought on each of the 2 visits in 2023 were very poor, well below their previous high standard. I can only assume they have changed chefs.
I am very disappointed and regrettably can't justify continuing to pay such high prices for very ordinary food, which I can purchase at my local low-end Chinese restaurant. I...
Read moreWe ordered the stir-fried yee foo noodles, Szechuan chicken, and the staff were accommodating in making an off-menu substitution for us (sweet and sour fish instead of pork). The noodles were nice and had a good texture to it. Despite the fish not being a regular dinner item, it was very well made: the meat was tender and the fried batter somehow retained a respectable amount of crunch even though it had been sitting in sauce for a long time. The Szechuan chicken could have been more spicy - I say this as a total crybaby when it comes to spicy food (picture tears streaming down my face with anything stronger than a capsicum), considering people often expect Szechuan dishes to have 'heat' (Szechuan region being a cold, cold place), and perhaps a little less salt is required for the chicken, as well. All in all a good experience, good staff who are attentive and friendly. But if you go for the Szechuan chicken, I recommend you request more chilli...
Read moreThe lady was not very nice, she was rushing us out despite still having 45 minutes to go before close time. We asked for bowls to drink the soup we had ordered, however, she denied our request for bowls for soup. She even told us the soup we had ordered was, ‘too salty to drink!’ Why would you even serve such a dish!
She was bad mouthing us, in her own language, behind our back. Thankfully, there were some members of our party that could also understand her language.
When we had not even finished our meal, which by the was not even that good, she pressured us to finish so they could clear the dishes or in her words, ‘give the kitchen something to do.’
It says something about the restaurant when it is empty on a Friday night…
It had spoiled the birthday celebration, and left sour taste in our mouth.
Food is standard. Service is horrible. They should...
