Ok, so the sunset was amazing and never fails to happen. The food on the other hand was very disappointing. I had the seafood platter. That was just thrown on a plate. I doubt anything was "local". More like frozen McCains. The Masterfoods squeeze pack of tartare sauce said it all. Karumba is a mecca for seafood and this was very disappointing. Everything was over deep fried. The chips were cold and terrible. To top it all off I VOMITED IT ALL BACK UP 2 hours later. Classic food poisoning. My partner had the king Salmon which I ate most of and it wasn't Salmon and tasted "funky". Maybe that was it? As a small business owner, I understand how difficult it is to get staff but, Seriously, if you can't open up without making people VOMIT, please remain closed or just sell drinks. Nobody attended our table to clean up so I think this is why the bar ran out of wine glasses...........at a Sunset Bar!!!! I was served a Savvy B in a POT. Terrible for such a busy place. Maybe that's why the locals go to the other pub.

It's all about location, location and location. It's the best spot to see the mouth of the Norman river and ocean beyond. It is also the best spot to see the sun set over the Gulf. It does get busy during the tourist season , so be there early to secure your favourite spot. The place is clean and spacious with a nice breeze blowing through all areas. There is a large indoor dining area and shady outdoor area with several trees. There is an area called "The barking lot" outside the premises where you can park your dog under a shady tree. Meal prices are reasonable considering the remoteness of the location and range from $9 for garlic bread to $120 for a hot and cold platter for 2. Lunch 12 to 2 pm and dinner 5:30 to 8:30 pm. No breakfast. On Sunday morning during the tourist season there is a small outdoor market offering fishing gear, dried fruits, clothing accessories etc.

We've come here twice in the past few days to enjoy a few drinks, watch the sunset, and have dinner. The setting is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed, which initially drew us back for a second visit. Unfortunately, the food has been consistently disappointing. On night one, I ordered the barra burger — it was so heavily crumbed that the fish was completely lost, making it unenjoyable. Hoping for a better experience, I returned and chose the Asian salad with grilled prawns ($36). The only flavour came from the sauce, and the "grilled" prawns were pale and clearly hadn’t touched a grill or flame. To say I’m not happy, Jan(e), is an understatement. We were prepared to eat here every night of our 5 night stay. This ain't happening now. Staff are lovely and the venue fantastic, but sadly the food let's it down.

Raw food and disgusting tables Me and my family came to sunset tavern with high hopes, we expected decent food, not 5 star of course, but a pub feed. We first ordered some entrees which were very basic (as expected) could of used more salt on just about everything. After a bit we ordered our main meals at about 7pm, after an hour at 8pm we received our food only to be let down by two burnt chicken burgers and a fish that looked like a piece of drift wood. As we were eating my pregnant step mother bit into her crumbed king salmon, as she did she found that it was completely raw and wretched. We went to the staff who were very kind about it and gave us a refund for the fish, we were still very disappointed in the chicken burgers as they seemed to be burnt, right up until my brother cut his half eaten chicken burger in between and found it to be completely pink, pretty much still feathered and jumping around. We showed the staff and they were extremely disappointed with their cooking. The only excuse we were given is that they had one less chef than the day before, no excuse to turn the fryers up and push raw food out. I have worked in a fish and chip shop and we still had more standards than this chef. NEED A NEW CHEF AND YOU...

Fantastic location, drinks nice n cold however this is where it ends for us. Waited quite a while for our food, hubby ordered the Mackerel Turkish bread burger with chips, some chips on the plate looked as if someone had snapped them in half and the fish was ordinary and unfortunately overcooked as well as on the small side. Bucket of prawns with garlic bread was extremely disappointing considering the prawns were local, they had absolutely zero taste and tasted very watered down, they had no fresh sea taste I had to add salt to them to get flavour along with the tiny sliver of lemon which was not even worth having on the plate, they did come with seafood sauce however it was awful. There was only 11 prawns in the bucket with half the bucket filled with icecubes. At $36 that equates to $3.27 per prawn ludicrous! I did address the prawn situation with one of your staff and she said she would let management know so hopefully she did. Nb I did take the remainder of the prawns with me in a takeaway box to mix with my dogs dinner tonight as I didn't want to waste food not...
