Shimla Curry House — Restaurant in Kyogle

My wife and I dined here for the first time tonight. The Kyogle place is very casual with dining only outside but under cover. Vikram and Cathy are good hosts and very chatty. They will tailor their food to your tastes if you have special requests which brings me to food. The menu is quite extensive and the helpings are generous compared to the cost. We chose Chicken Tikka, Raita, Lamb Madras, Karahi Beef and Garlic Naan. We really wanted to start with the chicken but it all came out together, thats ok though. We found the chicken although tender and flavoursome was very chunky and just needed a spruce up in the presentation, even a sprinkle of corriander on top would have done it. The Lamb Madras and Beef were excellent and the aroma of spices in the air when they were being cooked let us know that something good was headed our way. My only complaint here was that both the lamb and the beef (although tender) could of been a little more tender which would of really taken these dishes to the next level as the spice balance was very good. The naan bread was a little flat and a bit oily but as explained they could also tailor this to taste as requested, so a bit more crisp and drier if required. Oh, even their plain rice was steamed with cardamon pods and other spices and very interesting. All in all, pretty decent meal and not expensive, we'll be back for sure. Note that I dont believe it is licensed or even BYO and only soft drink cans...
