We recently visited Marong Hotel (28 June 2024), I ordered the Satay Chicken. I can honestly say I didn’t know what I was eating. The main signature essence of this meal is the peanut flavour, there was none, also nothing that was on the plate matched what was described on the menu. I usually don’t complain but when our plates were collected the waitress asked how was it, I told her I never would have guessed it was Satay Chicken. It tasted like some sort of mustard/mayonnaise combination and very tangy. She apologised and said it was a new dish and would pass it on. I thought fair enough, but I certainly wouldn’t serve that up to a Chinese customer as they would probably sue for naming something as Satay when it was mikes from it. I don’t like to do reviews but today (4July2024) I was speaking to a friend and told her of my experience at the Marong Hotel, she asked what I had and I I told her and she said funny I had the same meal many months ago. That’s what triggered this review as if it was a new dish how on earth was the same mess served up 3 months ago. Incidentally she also said she...

A great pub that is exceptionally clean with well priced food and outstanding service.

Well how things can change. Because of the great experience we received on Friday night we retuned on the Sunday night. We were geeted by a large balding man that appeared to have some authority. He abruptly excorted us to our table as we engaged in conversation he was very disinterested that we mentioned this is thae same seat we had on Friday. With know response he left returning with two glasses and water for the table. The glasses and bottle could have made less noise when hitting the table if he had thrown them from the bar. Our meals arrived and with chauvinistic arrogance that the man must be have the steak, not the case. Regretfully the steak was well done. As for my chicken dish the vegetables were cold and possibly left over from the lunch service. Overall a disappointing experience only two days apart. As the menu pointed out the new owners took over in 2007 I assume he was one of them. If so time for a career change mate, maybe the tax office might...

Booked a table for a birthday lunch on a Sunday, arrived to no record of our booking. Ordered our meals and waited and waited and waited, after being ignored for 40 minutes I asked a staff member how long our meals would be but were told that there was 'a mess up with the kitchen' but they would be out very quickly.

Another 15 minutes of waiting, I asked the waitress how much longer our food would be, we were told that there was a large function that took priority and we were told this when we arrived. We were definitely not told of any possible delay when we arrived, only until we had been waiting 55 minutes. We gave up and left after waiting for an hour with no time frame given on how much longer our meals would be. The venue seem to be poorly managed with staff rushing around with very little interaction with patrons.

It's a shame as we had visited previously and enjoyed the food. I provided feedback to the hotel via email but am yet to hear anything back after...

The Marong family hotel is a great place for a meal and drinks, they have plenty of space and were very accommodating with getting us in to a comfortable spot for the wheelchair close but not to close to the open fireplace with a simple access to the accessible loo. Parking out the front for our wheelchair accessible car made a big difference, keeping you nice and close to the access. The food was very nice please make a point of getting the cheese n mustard bread it was one of the Best I have had without making it myself soft and crunchy with tasty cheese loaded on top. A big plus also is they have a couple of vegan options beyond just chips and boiled veggies unlike many places. There are many options on the menu with a big focus on lamb. Over all a wonderful place to visit just take care at the intersection out front. Regards Kevin Knc assist

This place has a reputation for delivering good food and this visit just confirms it. Place was packed but staff managed to get us in for a table of two. Good menu, good prices with a special board. Staff were friendly and sociable. This is a quality pub that has that country feel. You'll see tradies in flouro having a beer after work in the main bar and tourists, visitors and locals filling the seats for a meal. Prices were appropriate and the food was delivered by happy staff and we did not have to wait too long. Things quietened down at the time we left with the duty manager asking us opinion about the parna and genuine in his query looking for feedback. You won't go wrong coming here for a meal. Good food, good vibe and reasonable prices. Heaps of outside seating for warmer months. Highly recommend 👌

Excellent hotel to drop into on your way back to Melbourne (& probably drown your sorrows for speeding through that speed camera strategically placed to get you!) or on the way to Lake Tyrrell or Mildura. I've had a many steaks from pubs & hotels in the regions & bloody oath this Porterhouse, medium rare with mushroom suace, salad & chips is excellent. Perfectly cooked & brought to the table still bloody. Hail Mary cause she's full of grace (not sure if there's anyone called Mary there). Great vibe with tunes for the afternoon lunch crowd. Lots of true blue Aussies moving across this great Southern land (so beards, beers & bellies). Ordered a Negroni but they've run out of vermouth, no biggie. Stone & Wood son. If you've read this far, just go already.
