It's not my first visit but first for 2020. A Boy Named Sue has been around for a while and I've always found it a quaint place that blends in with the environment of St. Andrews. It's hippie. It's quirky. It's a nice place to just sit and enjoy a Saturday morning market unfold on a Saturday. From your seat outdoors, you can smell the incense wafting over from the market, the sound of the motorcyclists postering as they come through town, or the click black of the lycra clad cyclists as they madke their way to ABNS for their coffee fix. The menu is good and has something for everyone, particularly vegetarians and vegans are catered for well. I had the breakfast bowl of fruit and home made muesli with natural yoghurt. A good portion size making it a nice healthy start to the day. My daughter had the sour dough with poached eggs and added a site of avocado and feta. Another good portion size, but perhaps a little too much feta. Her friend had the 'Suck Eggs" which consisted of 2 poached eggs in a cup with sour dough soldiers, garlic & chilli oil and goat cheese with maple coated bourcher bacon steak. The goats cheese was amazing but the eggs a little undercooked. Latte, chai latte and iced latte were all good although once again, part of the order was forgotton. Prices are reasonable. Staff are friendly and very helpful even if they did forget something. Apologetic and quick to get it on the table. Did look at the breakfast pizza someone was having on another table and it looked awesome - that's on my hit list for next time. Note: not really wheelchair friendly. Definitely kid friendly. Parking can be a challenge...
Read moreCame here for lunch after going to the market after seeing good reviews. This may be nit picking but we visit many cafes. Firstly the waitress put a bottle of water on our table, then went away. We waited a few minutes and realised that she wasn't bringing any glasses back for the water, so we had to flag her down for that. The coffee came, and there was no sugar on the table, so we found another waitress to get sugar for us. My partner ordered poached eggs on toast and extra side of mushrooms and feta, i ordered the cheese burger. 35- 40 minutes later, my burger finally came out first without the chips which took a couple more minutes, why can't they bring out at same time? Meanwhile my partner still waiting for her meal. It finally came out 5 minutes after mine and still she had to wait for a few minutes for the side of mushrooms, why can't they come out at the same time as well? The side feta were 2 little blocks for $2.50. The meals were nice but would be great if the meals came out together or followed very closely after another with all the side dishes instead of erratically. Therefore, 45 minutes later, and it was lunch time mind u, my partner and i finally managed to eat at the same time. We didn't think it was value for money considering the lack of good service. Adding skinny milk to coffees on the menu would be a welcome addition. It is a...
Read moreA Boy Named Sue is a cutesy little pizzeria/cafe in what appears to be a converted barn. It’s brick decor is gorgeous and the surroundings are peaceful enough (though when we were there 50 bikers were at the pub next door so peace and quiet was nil). Still, that’s not Sue’s fault.
There’s a number of options for starters such as garlic bruschetta, chips and Arancini balls. The main fare is either a burger (just the one), a number of gourmet pizzas or salad.
The pizza range is larger than anything else and anyone can get something I’m sure they’ll like. However the prices are.... steep, to say the least. 27 dollars for a pizza with 9 strips of (albeit, delicious) prosciutto. And it’s a one person pizza if you’re a decent eater.
Can’t complain about the taste as it was delicious. The drinks were skilfully made and delicious also and were more moderately priced. One pizza and two drinks ran us 55 dollars. Not the cheapest eat out but worth it for the surroundings (minus the bikers) and the managers service.
My one complaint would be; if I enter a cafe, typically I expect some form of hi when three waitresses walk right by me, nada. Nil. Zip. Had to approach the counter to see if we could sit. However the manager (and if he wasn’t the manager he should be) was delightful and welcoming and...
