Subtracted 1 star as the food was average, not amazing, not bad. Subtracted 2 stars for the hostile service and being charged for an item they could not make. The person who served us was rude immediately when we walked in, cut us off when we tried to mention we had a reservation and just pointed at a table. We order some mocktails off the menu, server came back to advise they couldn't make them for us and stood there clicking her pen and looking annoyed while we decided on alternatives. Asked for the pakora that was on the menu, told they couldn't make that but could make vegie pakora, agreed to that. Server comes back to the table after placing our order and says they can't make vegie pakora but they can make paneer pakora. I said no since I can't eat cheese so don't worry about the pakoras. She starts listing off every other entree and chaat. We're confused by why she's listing off everything. We said, no we're good, just bring the other things we have ordered. She then explains that they are unable to remove the pakora from our bill and we will have to pay for it so we must order something else. I said we don't want anything else. She insisted that we would have to pay because their system doesn't allow removal of items. I said that sounds like your problem, you can't charge me for something you can't provide. She storms off. Manager comes over and says they won't charge us, don't worry. Husband goes to pay at the end while I go out to the store next door. They charged him for the pakora and said that we have to order again from them and they will give us onion bhaji 'for free' next time we order. He is too polite and doesn't like drama so just left. I found out and went back and the manager again tells me that she is not authorised to remove items or offer refunds. I said I'm not ordering again from here, so you need to give us a refund. And then...she gave us a refund. I've never had a restaurant insist that I had to pay for something they couldn't make. They weren't apologetic, just rude...
Read moreWorst Indian Restaurant experience ever. Give this place a wide berth. These reviews should give an option to rate with MINUS STARS.
We have been frequenting and enjoying Indian Restaurants for over 40 years in Victoria, Adelaide, New South Wales and Queensland, and whilst some are better than others, Aangan, Cranbourne North, in our opinion, is by far and away, the worst Indian Restaurant.
My husband ordered a Takeaway Lamb Biriyani $16 and a Lamb Madras $17. When ordering he asked for extra meat for the Biriyani and was charged an extra $1.50 which is fair enough. He had to wait 45 minutes for his order, which is an inordinate amount of time when it was 5.55 pm and the Restaurant had 6 people dining and nobody else ordering a takeaway.
On arriving home we found the Lamb Madras had only 8 pieces of Lamb in a very watery gravy and the Lamb Biriyani only had 6 very small pieces of meat, 3 of which were attached to huge bones...he had been given Goat not Lamb. What we find perplexing is WHY the Lamb Madras had more meat than the Lamb (Goat) Biriyani yet he paid $1.50 more (that is 50 cents more than the Lamb Madras) this does not make any sense when a Biriyani consists of mainly rice. We rang and their attitude was they did not seem to care in fact he was cut off and had to phone back. What they then begrudgingly offered was a 10% discount on our next visit. At the very least the cost of the Biriyani should have been refunded.
What was meant to be an easy meal after a very busy day turned out a disaster.
I notice that unlike a lot of Restaurants, Aangan Restaurant does not reply to either negative or...
Read moreWe visited Aangan Cranbourne after having a wonderful experience at the Bundoora outlet a few months ago, but unfortunately, this time we left quite disappointed.
Here’s what we ordered, along with our ratings:
Veg Starters: • Malai Chaap – 1/5: The chaap lacked flavor, and the malai sauce tasted more like a white sauce used in Indian-style pasta. We were quite disappointed with this choice.
Non-Veg Starters: • Chicken Tikka – 3/5: This was one of the two dishes we found acceptable. It was decent but didn’t stand out.
Veg Mains: • Daal Makhani – 1/5: This was the blandest Daal Makhani I’ve ever had. It lacked depth and flavor. • Paneer Lababdar – 0/5: This was the most disappointing dish of the evening. Despite specifically requesting a spicy dish with rich gravy, what we received was overly sweet and lacked any spice. • Paneer Balti – 3/5: This was the best of the veg mains we tried, but still didn’t meet our expectations.
Non-Veg Mains: • Chicken Kolhapuri – 1/5: As a Maharashtrian, I was expecting a spicy and flavorful dish, but it was quite mild, even though we had requested a spicier version.
Drinks: • Mango Lassi – 5/5: The Mango Lassi was excellent and exactly what we expected. • Shikanji – 5/5: This was the highlight of the meal; we enjoyed it so much that we ordered it twice.
The service was quick, and the atmosphere was pleasant, but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make up for the disappointing food. Overall, it was a letdown, especially given our previous positive experience at the...
