Worst experience I’ve had at a Melbourne bar.
The short version: We waited 45 minutes for five cocktails that were half full and poorly made. When we raised this with staff, they were dismissive, rude, and accused us of lying. There was no apology—just a sarcastic “Was there anything else?” as we left.
The full story: My friends and I ordered five cocktails, but after 20 minutes (we checked the timestamp on the bank app), it was clear no one had even started making them. The bar staff had already served other customers and were standing around, so we politely asked about our order. The staff member who took it brushed us off with a curt “I’ve got your order” and continued washing glasses. After a full 45 minutes, our drinks finally arrived—half-filled, with the espresso martini smelling and tasting like dish soap. Still, no apology. When we explained the delay to the staff member, she said she’d get the manager. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, he approached us with a sarcastic, “I hear we aren’t happy.” When we told him how long we had waited, he cut us off and flatly denied it took that long—despite not having been involved at all (he was behind the bar having drinks himself). We told him we had checked the time of our transaction, but he responded by saying he’d “check his system” as if we were lying. As we left, he offered no apology—just a sneering “Was there anything else I can help you with?”
If the attitude we experienced last night is anything to go by, I expect this review will be met with the same sarcasm and defensiveness. We...
Read moreHi folks, a massive word of warning since the bar doesn’t see fit to advise their patrons: they're using pasta straws, that look like typical paper straws. The venue is always very darkly lit, which makes it even harder to tell that they're not paper straws until you're sticking pasta in your mouth. There's no warning and no query on whether you want a straw at all, never mind one made of a major allergen (and an extremely common food avoided in the inner Melbourne suburb of Brunswick).
The worst part of this was their attitude when my partner confirmed that it was pasta and explained the harm they caused in not advising that their straws were made of a serious allergen. The bar's attitude was to DARVO the situation, to say that I shouldn't have drunk through the straw - but that was the whole problem, there was nothing suspicious, it was incredibly deceiving. We were told that they didn't know about allergens because it 'wasn’t their world' - they're in hospitality!
Their practice and attitudes have caused me (and undoubtedly many others) a great deal of pain and illness, and it won't be over for...
Read moreNot a fan at all. The manager / owner dude (I assume it was) did not look any of us in the eye despite us walking by him and around him multiple times. Didn't even acknowledge our existence. The bar lady was exhausted and didn't want to be there. Sitting down staring into nothing between serving customers. Horrible drinks. Worst espresso martini I've ever had. She started shaking the cocktail without any ice in the shaker. Not sure what was going on there. my friends cocktail was awful also. My cherry sour was a little better, still not quite great. Beers were great and the platters of food we ordered were really nice though. Ambience in there was really lacking also. Extremely hot and stuffy with little circulation. All in all, you could not pay me to return. I hate giving reviews like this, but I was genuinely extremely disappointed and felt unwanted...
