Cafe Oggi — Restaurant in Melbourne

Disappointing. 9 of us dined on a Sunday night for a family birthday. Many of the dishes on the menu and specials board were unavailable. Our first choice of wine was unavailable....which can happen. However, the 2nd choice was poor quality NZ Pinot Noir. (Q: do they taste test their wine selection..?...or is purchasing simply price based?) A better wine was ordered after entree, & prior to the mains.....but was delayed while they 'had to find the key to the wine cabinet'. Really? 20 minutes later - after all of the meals were finished - the wine arrived. We sent it away. We just had water with the meals. Not sure why, but the owner was laughing when the waiter told him we'd declined it. The meals were mostly OK to good, but a chef in an Italian restaurant should know not to over cook Veal. :-/

Attention to detail and care factor seems to be a low priority at the restaurant side of Oggi now - I'll restrict my patronage...

Absolutely fabulous experience! Probably the best Italian we’ve had, in the Niagara Region, since moving here a year and a half ago. I had a burrata salad that was a full ball, with generous amount of greens and tomato, with a superb balsamic dressing. My main, pappardele with a great meat sauce was perfectly finished, and unfortunately too big for me to finish, but made a great lunch the next day. The wine was very reasonable and the service was excellent and very friendly. It is in an old house, with lots of separated rooms, instead of an open concept, which was a great atmosphere, and also allowed for the live entertainment to be easy to listen to, but not overpowering so you could talk. Cafe Oggi is a local restaurant for me and a place I can go for a quick and usually reasonable meal. Been going there on and off for years but this morning went with my boot camp buddies for a break up brunch and had the worst meal I have ever experienced. I ordered eggs benedict with smoked salmon. Took quite a while to come out when others were pretty close to finishing and the sauce was cold and curdled and very vineragy. One egg was runny the other was almost hard and the dish was predominantly cold. I was so disappointed. That after my husband ate there 2 nights prior with friends and ended up with food poisoning which may or may not have been Oggi. Will be giving the cafe a big...
