Cafe Viana — Restaurant in Melbourne

I've popped in to this cafe a few times and have loved getting a snack or a beautiful loaf of bread. Today I finally stopped in for lunch

I really enjoyed my lunch, but more than that I have to say the service here is truly above and beyond. I've had his interactions with all the staff so far, but today was a standout. Not only did the lovely server (whose name was "B", I think) really help me choose from all the great options, but she went above and beyond. I got a bit of bad news and was trying to be subtle about my teary state. B came up and respectfully made me feel supported without making me feel embarrassed or intruding on my space.... To be honest she showed such kindness that I ended up bursting into tears all over again because it was so nice!!

This place has great food, great bread but is let down by the grump behind the counter. The felmale & another male staff member with glasses are so friendly & always happy to help. The kids working in the servo have better customer service. There's just no need to snap at people when a simple question is asked. I initially thought it was a once off, but every time l come in the same attitude, maybe get more staff if you're under pressure and can't hold in that pressure for a friendly hello or smile. I literally have anxiety going into here now, wondering how im going to be spoken to.it's a real shame bc l want to support local business. Called in here while our house was open for inspection. Sitting outside with our dog we ordered a Calamari salad $18 and a Chicken Parma $20. Within 10 minutes the food was brought out to us and we couldn't believe our eyes. Huge amount of food and all was so fresh. Tha Calamari was cooked to perfection with a beautiful salad. The Chicken Parma was probably the best I've ever had. The cheese was so tasty. Again cooked to perfection. Service very polite and friendly,even our dog had a complimentary Smacko.
