If you want to take everything in at this venue, it works best during quieter times. Throughout busy trade, it gets noisy and crowded, and the setting of the venue is somewhat diminished.
It works reasonably well as an Americana style venue, without it being too gauche. It's not a venue overly done with faux paraphernalia, resulting in a kitsch aesthetic. The drinks menu is reasonably good, but the food menu, whilst streamlined and simple, seems a bit lacking in options.
I'd suggest a few more items, say 3-4, particularly in the mains section, and a poutine as well, or may new York style pizza by the slice. Burgers are pretty on point but minimally overseasoned with salt, albeit not by much.
It's a fun venue out, but I'd recommend some acoustic dampening improvements and perhaps installing some bass traps for those hard, loud, reflective surfaces.
Perhaps some fried chicken sandwiches, Nashville style, could work here as well. It can get busy, and when it does, it's a loud and tight space, meandering between large groups.
I have not checked out the upstairs area, given there was a private event on at the time. There was still room for walk in patrons, but it was a bit too chaotic to navigate at that time.
A popular space for events, i say events, not "functions," because the dreadfully daggy connotations of the word, of the outdated period of 1980 to 2001, which has well and truly passed. A birthday, or any other form of celebration, is an event, using the word function is socially redundant.
But I digress, at good pub-esque style venue, that is also American influenced, yet one that works well in the Melbourne scene. Go the chips and gravy, tomato sauce, buy a Melway, so we can tell you where to go;...

Read moreVibe here is good, but the Service was pretty disappointing.. Everyone at my table commented on separate occasions about the blonde managers service... not the best way to spend a birthday. It was Sunday evening and she clearly didn't want to be there. Upstairs rooftop was full with patrons and they had already started closing the cocktail section at 7.30pm... She said she couldn't be in 2 places at once and too much to manage. I ordered a cider instead- but none available. She then said I could go downstairs and order a cocktail. At that point I gave up and didn't feel like spending my money on a cocktail... I ordered the cheapest drink on the menu before leaving. Perhaps this staff member shouldn't be put on the Sunday shifts and should stay at home to be...
